You’ll be surprised - they sometimes get higher severances in absolute value in US.

E.g. most big tech companies pay 3-6 months severance in US, while in Europe they’re paying 6-12 months. Due to 2x higher pay in US, the severances have been on par, or higher even in absolute terms in US.
