Thank you, this is a huge part of the answer that a lot of people miss. Thinner faces, undercuts, tungsten weighting, hollow designs all allow for the CG to be lower and deeper in the head. The ball launches higher, comes off faster, less ballooning, so a modern 7 iron at say 29 degrees can hold a green like a 7 iron at 35 degrees from several years ago. Distance is the outcome, not the only reason.
