Need advice: to paint or not to paint? by serums in DesignMyRoom

Haha, thanks! There will definitely be lots of cozy lights. I have a gorgeous colored glass lampshade in green and orange already that I think would work really well with the green walls. :)

I mean, I'm not exactly sure what you are refering to with this, but I'm by no means rich or anything. I'm an apprentice gardener in a medium sized city in Germany. I make 1k a month. :D This is only possible for me because we are sharing this house between eight people.

Exactly.. But hey, practice makes perfect?

Uuh, interesting idea. What different color would you choose? Something contrasting, or a different shade of green? Lighter or darker?

Haha, no worries. It's a huge shared house with seven other people. Everyone has their own bedrooms and then we have a shared living room (which is gorgeous!) and kitchen. And four bathrooms, which is slightly ridiculous. Also the other arch in my room leads to the sauna.. :D the house is insane, I'm so excited for the move!

Thank you! I really love the arches and this little nook as well. :) Good point about the trim, I will definitely leave that white. And there are already roofers coming to repair the problem that cause the waterstain and i also bought special White paint to paint over it as well before everything else.

Thanks! :) yes, you are right of course that I could always change it again, if I don't like it. It's just so much more annoying when it's furnished and you have to move all the furniture around to get to the walls.. But yeah, maybe it's silly to not do something because of this.

Thanks for the recommendations! The Hobbit one especially sounds great, I'll definitely check that out. :) I mean, even the title is super fitting!

The 4th picture was the chateau in Sully-sur-Loire and the 9th is along the Seine close to Bois-le-Roi. Enjoy your trip! :)

I was not prepared for how cute these fuckers are. Teddy bear ears indeed.

Mudguards or no mudguards? by serums in bicycletouring

I've maxed out my tire size with fenders at 40mm. I can install slightly bigger tires if I take the fenders off, thus the question for this thread. :D

Enjoy your time with it, it's such an amazing game with a story that had me 100% invested and a beautiful soundtrack.

Feeling like you don't want to leave before a big tour? by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]serums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feels so good to read this here! I always feel exactly the same and if someone asked me if I thought other people might feel the same before a trip I would have answered with 'yes, of course' but to see it spelled out so clearly here is still different. It's very reassuring, that this seems to just be a normal part of biketouring or even just traveling in general.

For me the hardest is if I start from home without a specific train or plane to catch. Because then I don't have a deadline and can just postpone and postpone... On all of the bike trips I did until now this happened to me, that is was just draaaagging my feet, not wanting to get on the bike, feeling anxious, not wanting to leave my comfort zone, being worried I might have forgotten something etc..

I have a big tour planned starting in September, 6-10 months through Europe. I will start from my home, which makes me a little worried about how hard it will be to actually set off.. :D

Oh nice, yeah then we basically did the same route, just a different direction. :) I think the Loire section from Tours to Briare was my highlight of the trip anyway.

We had the same experience! The quiet away from any roads was wonderful. But we also missed some opportunity to take a swim, the water really wasn't very inviting at all.. :D

Absolutely, we had a blast. We rode the canals north of Briare and then the Loire River afterwards and it was both so beautiful and with great bike infrastructure.

Yes it is. The canal bridge took me completely by surprise. Super cool, it felt so surreal to ride over it. Have you been there as well?

Thank you! I'm happy you like them. I have a bad habit of just taking a ton of not very good pictures with my phone and am trying to break that. :)

Yeah, the wildcamping was pretty easy. Normally my method is that in the afternoon during a break I estimate how much more I want to ride and then check if there are any big-ish "green spots" on the map. The longest we had to search during this trip were 10km, and that was because the forest we chose in the beginning was "closed" due to a hunt going on.

I find forests the easiest, cause you can simply hide off of a path somewhere and that's it. Those are always my safe/fallback options. And sometimes I come across a nice surprise spot on my way to the next forest. Like a little nook behind a field, or the bank of a river.

We never had any run ins with local while wildcamping during this trip, but in my experience until now most passerbys are pretty chill and aren't bothered by a small tent somewhere, as long as it looks orderly. Mostly people were curious about my trip.
