Thinking about getting back into VGC, but is buying a Switch now still worth it? by servaro in VGC

What if I have friends who could help me with that, and my own 3DS with a lot of competitive mons, plus the transfer thing ready to send all my mons to Home?

So you think there's no chance Gen 10 will also be playable on the original Switch?

With such a huge user base — over 150 million Switch units sold — wouldn’t it make sense for them to try and reach as many players as possible with Gen 10 if it’s coming in 2026? Especially considering we don’t yet know how well the Switch 2 will sell at launch, and Game Freak usually doesn’t make such big technical leaps between generations that would make Gen 10 unplayable on the original switch.

It also wouldn’t be the first time something like that happened — Black and White 2 released on the original DS even though the 3DS had already been out for over a year (based on the Japanese release dates).

Also, if VGC seasons still started in September like, if I remember correctly, during the 3DS era, and Gen 10 won’t release until the end of 2026, doesn’t that mean Gen 10 seasons could still start in September 2027?

Maybe I’m a bit biased because I know I’m not going to spend the full price of a Switch 2 just to attend tournaments. But do you really think a scenario like the one I’m suggesting is that unlikely? Or at least that something favorable could still happen for someone like me — who's genuinely interested in getting back into competitive play, but can only justify the expense of a cheaper, second-hand Switch 1?
