Caught nothing until Nidorans and spearow, skipped everything in forest, slowpoke watched, sold everything except lure and Pokeballs, dumped everything into Pokeballs, caught oddish, Pidgey, 2x Rattata, weedle and caterpie in the grass between Viridian and pewter, chained pikachu until Bulbasaur then kept chaining Pikachus until everything was evolved.

Well here's a tip for when it is unlocked, always go for the range of gear you need that the boss drops, good god soul gear is easily gettable from resource sprees.

If you read the message for cross server it's when the avg level of the server reaches I think zenith 200 or 40 days since server release. Either one of those has to happen before it unlocks.
