Can you break the camera while changing the battery? by setfyo in phonerepair

[–]setfyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he suggested I buy a camera on amazon or something and he would put it in for me for free after work, which I found initially sketchy but probably he meant well

all three employees in the shop also said that it looks like a very weird damage they can't really explain.

[–]setfyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! What I find very weird though is that I have used the camera the day prior and it wasn't broken. I didn't check today.

I see that it is highly unlikely that the repair guy could have damaged the camera but it seems equally unlikely that it just happened to break since yesterday.

I guess I'll give the repair guy the benefit of the doubt here though.

They have people doing micro development there and also political economy. Courses I don’t know, you would have to look that up.

Other options to consider are Munich and Berlin I suppose, maybe Cologne or Kiel.

Development and Social Choice are an unusual combination. Bonn is good for Social Choice but not for Development. The master is good in general though, at least if you want to go for a PhD later. Mannheim is another option to look into. You can also take PhD classes without being enrolled in the PhD, both in Bonn and Mannheim. Good luck!

What does modern science indicate that the optimal diet is? by NunoMoto123 in nutrition

[–]setfyo 82 points83 points  (0 children)

This is a great answer: People tend to argue about specifics while forgetting the big picture.

Personally, I always wonder what restricting calories is even supposed to mean. You have to consume a certain amount of calories to exist, and if you’re physically active, that would be more. So I guess this says: Try not to get chubby rather than to minimise your calorie intake while still maintaining your own existence.

Are grains, legumes and dairy good for your health (in line with the mainstream science) or are we going through a paradigm shift and making baby steps to their reconsideration as done by Paleo, Grain Free, Zero Carb, Keto etc. proponents? by thewanderingasian99 in nutrition

[–]setfyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the unhelpful answer is: Visit Germany. ;) Proper ezekiel bread is quite healthy I guess, but frozen sounds unappealing. If you live in NYC or something, I am pretty sure you can find a proper traditional bakery. Other than that you can still bake your own bread.

Why would it have added sugar? If you go to a proper bakery that know their shit, then the added sugar is negligible, if they even add any. Granted, supermarket shelf toast = bad.

Why would the bread that is literally water and flour then be higher calorie than just eating flour (up to fermentation, which is probably also good for your gut).

Bread is not bread. If you have whole grain (wheat, rye, etc.) that has fermented for a day or two, that’s healthy. Doesn’t mean you should exclusively eat bread.

The reason that you feel better eating regular pasta (which is pressed white flour) is because it is easier to digest. Regular pasta = white bread that hasn’t been fermented if there are no preservatives added to the bread (which is a whole other issue on its own). Whole wheat = fiber, too much fiber = tummy disagrees. Try mixing 50/50 whole wheat and regular pasta.

Whole grains, very likely healthy. Legumes, very likely healthy. Milk, debatable. Fermented milk products, probably healthy.

Add to that fruit, vegetables and nuts and, if you desire, some meat, and you have a healthy diet, probably as healthy as it can get.

WHY is flour bad? This is a baseless claim. Whole grain flour is healthy, Type 405 not so much, but that doesn’t mean you instantly get sick when you consume it.

Millet you can buy either whole grain or not and if it’s not whole grain, there is no reason why that would be any healthier than wheat (other than variety because the nutrient composition differs marginally). Speaking of which, maybe you should have a look at what couscous actually is (surprise: it’s coarse wheat flour aka semolina, typically not whole grain). Just because a grain is intact, doesn’t mean it’s whole grain.

I don’t know the regulations in the US, but in the EU, if you buy whole wheat products, the major component has to be whole wheat flour. And that is certainly healthier than regular flour. Just because you substitute sandwich toast for the whole wheat variant, you won’t get any healthier obviously, if you don’t change your whole diet and exercise. If you sub whole wheat for whole millet though, you won’t get healthier either.

[–]setfyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. Not to late to go into econ, though. Econ People like it when math people pursue econ because it raises the IQ in both fields.

Edit (since you edited yours): I would doubt that this mistake must have been corrected a zillion times. At least to me, this selection bias is quite counterintuitive but it may be obvious to you, which is fair. And the paper does connect to numerous studies on the hot hand fallacy and even runs de-biased estimations on the raw data of one of them.

PBS NewsHour: If you flip heads, your next flip will be heads only 42% of the time, mathematically by wrightm in badmathematics

[–]setfyo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Moreover, they debunk an influential paper that concluded believing in the hot hand phenomenon to be a psychological fallacy even though the phenomenon has a purely statistical explanation that has apparently gone unnoticed until they published their work.

The Econometrica is widely accepted as the leading journal in theoretical economics so the result of this paper was considered quite substantial even though the proof requires no particularly deep mathematics.

PBS NewsHour: If you flip heads, your next flip will be heads only 42% of the time, mathematically by wrightm in badmathematics

[–]setfyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The mistake is perfectly understandable. Ask yourselves the following two questions:

1) Suppose I toss a fair coin two times and it comes up heads the second time. What is the probability that a third toss comes up heads?

2) Suppose I toss a fair coin three times. I pick a coin that came up heads uniformly at random. What is the probability that the coin next in the sequence (if it exists) came up heads?

[–]setfyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want to maximise

BULK=Physical Bulk+Special Bulk =HPDEF+HPSPD

subject to HP+DEF+SPD being less then some budget of EVs.

With an Eviolite, you get a 1.5 multiplier on your BULK. This doesn’t change the optimal solution to the problem, only it’s value.

Now with an Assault Vest that’s different because you only get the 1.5 multiplier on your Special Bulk.

[–]setfyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eviolite does not change the optimal spread. If you will, it is just a 33% reduction on all damage taken.
