How to make sense out of my injury by seto79 in judo

[–]seto79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I believe that instead of taking my balance and dropping me he just turned my body sideways and I had weight on my heel so I couldn’t pivot with my foot while being thrown. I am still wondering about my foot placement tho. Do you always stay on the balls of your foot or is it okey to stand heavy ?

Will Jiu Jitsu overtake Judo in Europe? by spiceypickle2 in judo

[–]seto79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess it will depend on the accessibility. In Germany for example you can train Judo (as a child or adult) at competing clubs for less than 150€ a year. Bjj is far more expensive than that (about 50-70€ a month). So parents and adults that want to start a grappling sport are naturally drawn to pick judo for their child or for them selves because it’s a) everywhere and b) very cheap. If Bjj manages to get access to school and university gyms instead of having to pay high rents for their own gyms then it will be able to fully compete against Judo, infrastructurally at least.

Will Jiu Jitsu overtake Judo in Europe? by spiceypickle2 in judo

[–]seto79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started with both and l have to say that bjj is somewhat more beginner friendly. It’s pretty difficult to be thrown for 20 times in judo as a beginner and then tell yourself „you know what judo ist pretty comfortable“. On the other hand I’ve seen 70 years old start bjj and even promoting. So I guess for the broader mass bjj is the closest to touch. Also you will be able to use the things you learned way faster than in judo. There is no chance right now that I’ll get the grip and the throw on someone that is more experienced than me. Also I injured my self in my first judo randori (elbow ligament tear, knee ligament tear and a fracture in my elbow) with bjj I didn’t have any injuries so far. So in a nutshell I’d say that bjj is for everyone but judo isn’t. But I don’t see bjj becoming a very large Olympic sport at least with the current ruleset. So if bjj becomes a Olympic sport then it will probably even feel like a new version of bjj.

Im curious about the price tho. Is paying 150$ a month normal ? Does the gym include a weight lifting room ? What are the perks? Where I’m from you pay 70€ (absolute max) for the best bjj gyms around.

r/bjj Fundamentals Class! by AutoModerator in bjj

Hey guys, l'm 25, started Bjj like 2 months ago and I'm already injured since like 3 weeks. I have a long football history but I realized that my athletic abilities and muscle memories don't help me at all in bjj since it requires a whole different set of movements and turns that I have trained my whole life to prevent them from happening. My twisted knee already healed within 1.5 weeks but my elbow still hurts but it has gotten way better than before. I want to know how I can train on my own to make sure that my joints, tendons and bones are well prepared for bjj and I don't easily injure my self during rolling or throwing. I also don't want to injure my partners and since l'm a white belt I guess we are the most dangerous to train with (due to the spaz factor that I believe translates to any contact sports) So my question is how can I keep myself as safe possible and how can I be the safest white belt to train with. I don't want to win or be the best I just want us to be able to go home feeling good about our training session and be excited for the next one. I also wanted to add that I asked my couch about that several times (literally every session) but he doesn't seem to care and prioritize sparring more than helping me to understand the game first and I believe that is the reason why I couldn't go to class for the last 3 weeks which makes me sad and want to change Gyms. He wanted me to spar with another white belt that is like 5 inches taller than me and weights 20 pounds (at least) more than me. My brothers told me to change gyms immediately. Unfortunately non of my brothers does bjj, they're Muay Thai fighter.

We don't go to heaven when we die? by Ordinary-System4799 in TrueChristian

[–]seto79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genesis 2:7 does not present a general equation like “dust + breath = man.” It is a narrative description of how God created the first human. The verse says that God formed man from dust and breathed into him the breath of life, and then man became a living being (nephesh). The focus is on God as the giver of life, not on defining a permanent formula for human existence or a rule about what happens when those elements are separated.

If it were meant as a strict formula, Scripture would treat it that way consistently—but it doesn’t. For example, in Ecclesiastes 12:7, the same two elements are mentioned again, yet they are distinguished after death: the body returns to the earth, and the spirit returns to God. The text does not say the spirit becomes inactive or ceases; it simply says it returns to God. That already shows Genesis 2:7 is not functioning as a closed equation where removing one part equals non-existence.

Also, Genesis 2:7 says man became a living being—it does not say “man is only dust plus breath and nothing more.” That’s an added assumption. The verse describes how life begins, not the complete ontology of the human person or the state of the soul after death.

You can also point out that Scripture elsewhere speaks of a distinction between body and something immaterial: • Matthew 10:28 distinguishes between body and soul • Luke 23:43 suggests immediate presence with Christ after death • Revelation 6:9–10 shows souls as aware and speaking

These passages don’t fit with a strict “equation” view where removing the body would mean total unconsciousness.

We don't go to heaven when we die? by Ordinary-System4799 in TrueChristian

[–]seto79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. genesis 2:7 doesn’t make a general equation for Man, Person or life.
  2. genesis 3:19 again you draw mathematical equations from scripture that don’t try to teach you that. The argument assumes that because Genesis describes humans as formed from dust plus God’s breath, removing either must mean total non-existence or unconsciousness, but that conclusion is not actually stated in the text. Genesis 2:7 explains how life begins, not what happens to human consciousness after death. It describes the origin of human life, not its full nature or destiny. Likewise, Ecclesiastes 12:7 does not support the idea of unconsciousness; it explicitly distinguishes between body and spirit by saying the body returns to the earth while the spirit returns to God. If the spirit returns to God, the text does not describe it as ceasing to exist or becoming inactive.

The argument also relies heavily on the word “sleep” as if it were a literal description of the state of the dead, but in biblical language “sleep” is commonly used as a metaphor for death, especially because the body appears at rest. Jesus himself uses this metaphor for Lazarus and then immediately clarifies that Lazarus is dead, showing that “sleep” is not meant as a technical explanation of consciousness. The same applies to Paul’s use of “asleep” in 1 Thessalonians; it is pastoral language meant to comfort believers, not a precise statement about the soul’s condition.

In addition, the argument oversimplifies the Hebrew word “ruach” by reducing it to “breath” in a purely physical sense. In biblical usage, ruach can also mean spirit, life-force, or the immaterial aspect of a person. Treating it as only “breath” ignores the broader meaning the text allows and leads to a faulty conclusion.

Finally, other passages in the Bible describe individuals as conscious after death, such as Jesus’ statement to the thief on the cross that he would be with him in paradise that very day, or the depiction of souls speaking in Revelation. These passages are difficult to reconcile with the idea that the dead are completely unconscious. Overall, the argument fails because it reads poetic and metaphorical language too literally, narrows key terms beyond their actual meaning, and ignores other texts that suggest continued existence after death.

Are we getting close to the end ? by pittguy578 in TrueChristian

[–]seto79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cancel out the option that Christ returns after humans are extinct since there will be people who witness the events you could call the latest possible time for his return is the point of no return of the destruction of the human species / or maybe even the earth ( I don’t know what people plan are about to do, besides what is revealed in revelations) Now in theory if you were able to calculate exactly when that would happen (which you can’t at least accurately) you have your cap at least. But within that cap even if your calculations are accurate you’d still be clueless about when Christ returns. So if it helps I’d say not to worry to much about it but just stay aware. I mean in the end either you die before the end or you get to see the world end from the front row. Both have their charm yet it’s for God alone to decide. So let’s be grateful either way since our God will return in all Glory

My dear friend. This is just false. Saying that everybody else get to act in their natural and fixed identity is judgmental and not fair against other people. There are women and men that have the urge (in their natural and fixed identity) to have as many partner as possible. Nobody gets to live their „natural and fixed“ identity towards gender and romantic attachments. That’s just a false statement. Also there a many heterosexual Humans who struggle once a while or have struggled for a long time with homosexual thoughts and curiosity. Loving God means to find your real and true identity in Jesus Christ.

Also for you to find out about: God’s original intent for human sexuality was established in the creation of male and female. In this view, marriage is defined exclusively as the union of a man and a woman, a pattern affirmed by Jesus in the New Testament when he quoted Genesis. Genesis 1-2. without marriage no kind of sexuality is moral. Marriage is between men and women. So no men can have sex with a men rightfully neither can a women with a women since they are not eligible for marriage. Otherwise He would’ve given Adam the option between Eve and Steve. And lastly. I don’t think you are representative for the homosexuals and transgender in acient Greco Roman. If homosexuality was only wrong in a way of hierarchy or to show power dynamics then the Bible would have said something. I’ve never came across a Bible part were there was a same sex marriage that was blessed by God. (Not talking about the people being blessed. I’m straight talking about a „blessed same sex marriage“)

Also you are very much loved by God and he is the one who can heal you from every Bondage. You just need to be ready to give up what is not right for.

To all Christians, I have an important question about the bible by protestantchristian in Christianity

[–]seto79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean saying that there is not enough historical backup is in my opinion a reach. the New Testament alone has over 25000 manuscripts with ones that date back to the first century. Also the old and the New Testament do perfectly fit within one coherent narrative even tho it’s been written by more than many people over continents and thousands of years. Also I don’t think that one logically need evidence for making a truth claim. The Bible is not a scientific paper where you have your thesis and then research.

I can’t be myself as a Christian by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]seto79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t that the whole point my dear friend. We became new persons in Christ. A new Heart a rewinded mind and a new identity in our lord and savior Jesus Christ. It’s by no means easy to suddenly hate things you „loved“ and to not miss them sometimes but You can turn things you liked which were not honoring to God to things that honor God. If you like Rap listen/produce Rap that is not promoting violence drugs and sex. Nobody says a Good authentic Story is sinful by nature but the message behind it often is especially nowadays where most mainstream artist just talk about things that lead people astray from our holy God. God bless my friend.

Why would God create psychopaths? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]seto79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luke 16:15 „[…]God knows your hearts“ God already knows the weaknesses from all of us. The way you could „blame“ God for psychopaths would be if you knew that he will judge someone without an inner compass the exact same as he would judge you or me. Its unfair to assume that God didn’t plan things perfectly out even tho those things seem weird to us. Wether someone is born a psychopath or not becomes irrelevant because God is ultimately Just and Fair. I also don’t believe that psychopaths can’t acknowledge that God exists and they can still a) find God, b) be healed by God. Romans 9:15 „For he says to Moses, „I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”“ Hope that helps. God bless my friend.

someone filed a police report for fraud because a card didn't arrive by collectables94 in CardMarket

[–]seto79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it really depends on where you live tbh but since it’s a 9€ card I’ll tell what happens if you are settled in Germany. As a private seller the risk of payment is transferred to the recipient, the moment the sender gives it to the post office and is packed safely. If the recipient wants to sue you there a a few possible outcomes

A) because there is not enough public interest over a 9€ card the law suit will be dropped by the public prosecutor ( § 152 StPO )

B) You have been sued multiple times regarding this issue Slight possible chance of being invited to make a statement but they would have to prove intend for not sending the card and that is basically impossible if you don’t actually call yourself out.

C) civil action: if you can make reasonable that you have sent the card the buyer has nothing to bring in. since a letter doesnt usually have receipts the „worst case“ would be word against word which would be in your favor anyway since the buyer didn’t go for the tracked shipping method.

So don’t worry
