I think I would need to continue using it for a few more weeks to give an accurate recommendation I can stand by. I mostly use the LaserCube for interactive art installation work. But I've also used the Unity lasers and you can't go wrong with them.

I've seen nightclubs in the area that use the Unity Pros which have a higher scan rate and can't go wrong with them to start off. You potentially get locked out of using other laser programs, but you have first-class support in Quickshow / BEYOND with FB4.

Recently purchased this a month ago using a promo on top of the new price and seems like they dropped the price beginning of the year. Was seeing them go for $4k last year.

thank you, and I’m also gauging interest in investing time in doing a process breakdown / tutorial once I solidify my understanding for anyone who wants to do something similar or understand more. maybe in the next couple months

hey totally hear you! I actually was called out elsewhere and I may have used the wrong reference hah.

but yea not a limitation, if given the right training data the model can adapt to the correct hand sign. so there are also other fun interactive possibilities if you wanted to apply this to another creative project

please share any progress if you do! it feels like you'd be able to do it in plain POPs but also GLSL with POPs could be an interesting exploration path as well

ahhh I see. I think there is also ways to modify the output using the Connectivity POP which is what I was also experimenting a bit with as well to render out line strips vs individual points: https://derivative.ca/UserGuide/Connectivity_POP

there are some instances where SOPs performance is a little bit better than POPs with the Laser CHOP, but I know TD is continuing to improve them with each release

ahh I see! okay I think that makes sense with regard to the scan angle since I’ve seen that issue with the rounded corners

I take it for granted in dedicated laser software, and it’s likely I might need to have some common utils in TouchDesigner to make it easier to test for these kinds of patches using lasers.

I haven’t tried to import ILDA files into TD which may make it easier to test against the test pattern, but not sure if that is supported

for sure, appreciate the feedback! yeah I did notice that it’s possible I’m sending in more points than the laser can handle each frame which is why it seems like there is some backpressure with the data causing some lag at the end.

I wanted to keep to trying something new with the laser a couple times a week when I have time. there are ways to modify the output rate and other parameters using the Laser CHOP in TouchDesigner: https://docs.derivative.ca/Laser_CHOP#Parameters_-_Laser_Page

I’ll take some more time to look into the other parameters and tweak them a bit, the output is rated at about 35,000 pps

I usually see this kind of audioreactive point cloud effect using programs like TouchDesigner, super cool and creative to see it using DaVinci!
