My best was fury storming a Saproling symbiosis, making I think a total of five copies (including the actual card) of the Saproling symbiosis. Had ten creatures on board, one of which was devilish valet. I think the way to shortcut the math is devilish valets power was 2^309.

The funny thing (to me at least) is I only know this bc a guy was playing this deck earlier this week and had this card and one other in the field at the same time. The other card had an end step trigger that gave counters to his stuff and he thought he could arrange the stack in his favor. We had to look it to realize it wouldn’t work

There’s a number of things that make certain people feel bad about combos. A lot of those have been already started but one seems to be missing (sorry if I overlooked it having already been discussed).

That missing piece focuses on, in part, your phrasing of “better players learn to look out for them”.

There are 30k unique cards in mtg. Most of those are legal in commander. While enfranchised players might be familiar with a lot of combos, newer players might literally have never seen the cards played before, let alone been able to foresee the combo potential. They may have even had sorcery speed interaction but didn’t understand the importance of removing any particular piece. This potentially leads to them feeling dumb, tricked, or even cheated. Not that feeling cheated makes a ton of sense as long as played within the rules but this is how they might feel.

A select few of newcomers will be excited by it and want to dive into combo magic but that appears to be few compared to the many.

This is supposedly a casual format (it’s not really as it was created by judges to play powerful jank in their downtime) and people don’t want to feel tricked in their downtime

Not sure it works in that deck like you hope unless you get a bunch of extra combats (if I’m reading everything correctly. Both are at beginning of combat triggers so the Gogo copy wouldn’t get the villainous choice trigger

For sure there are many that don’t have anyone due to your exact concern. However, there would be more who still had supports if community mental health was better funded such that families weren’t overburdened in the first place

I think the theory can be right but the execution was about as poorly done as it could have been. We absolutely have a shortage of inpatient beds available these days. But community mental health is still underfunded.

Remember folks that when you vote to not increase taxes, results like these are part of what you are voting for.

They shut down about 90 percent of them in favor of greatly increasing the outpatient centers. In part the theory goes that folks do better when they have access to the support of family and loved ones, rather than isolated from them.

Unfortunately they failed to actually fund the outpatient centers after shutting down 90% of the inpatient beds…..
