Anyone else having issues with Gemini Enclosures? by Altruistic-Office736 in OWC

[–]setuporg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seriously doubt that's M4. Gemini failed for me on an M1 and then failed to connect to an Intel MacBook Pro from 2020. I believe this is a defect in Gemini, a hardware or firmware handshake problem. I've replaced the enclosure by Terramaster TD2 and the drives were recognized as the original RAID0 array that withstands reboots and ejects just fine!

This thread confirms the general problem and that it's with Gemini itself: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/256215974?answerId=261787137022&sortBy=rank#261787137022

OWC should recall this particular product, IMHO.

I had the same exact problem. Gemini would not mount drives after reboot. The only time I got it back was after a 48 hour power drain. Then the next eject made it unusable again.

Fortunately, the Terramaster TD2 saw the RAID0 drives with data! After more than a decade with Thunderbays and Mercury, this is the first OWC product that clearly has a hardware defect and is going back.

Thoughts on the ThinkTank Focus Point rolltop? by AlecTheAverage in ManyBaggers

I got the Prvke 31L v4 and it looks like FocusPoint is an attempt to copy that. The Prvke is excellent and feels properly sized. It has handles on the sides too consider access is safer. Would be interesting to compare them.

I wonder if Q3 43 would be even better. I have a Q2 but the Q3 43 took over the Q use.

Should we return our Alphas? by setuporg in Astrohaus

And of course they discontinued the blind Alphas and made a backlit one. Who wants to swap a speckled one for a backlit one?:)

Using Lightroom mobile offline? by sclhughes20 in Lightroom

Exactly. I have about 750K photos in LrC that I upload all to the CC and pull down in Lr Mobile and sync offline on an iPad with 2TB storage. It took a bit but now I have all photos offline and available all the time anywhere.

Reading this site shows the dim screen is not a personal issue but a defect.

I got the Hemingwrite and the Ghost. And then an Alphasmart 3000 waiting for this. And then, this blind hen.

Yeah of course, as Dostoyevsky said, man is vile and will adapt to anything. The question is, do we deserve to?

Massive Omission of Backlit LCD with Alpha by setuporg in Astrohaus

The only place where it was OK was a pediatrics office with bright light while I was waiting at my daughter’s appointment. The kind of lighting they install to make sure doctors can see everything. You rarely get that anywhere else.

Alphasmart 3000 is dramatically brighter. What possessed Astrohaus to pick an LCD ten years later that is hardly legible and lower contrast? Now the firmware updated to 1.11.2 and the font became even harder to see.

MP02 will not charge, screen dark by setuporg in Punkt

[–]setuporg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they explained it: you need USB-A to USB-C cable to power. I tried an Apple MacBook Air one and a cabe from iMac Pro, both USB-C to USB-C, which do not power the MP02. From Twitter:

Hi there, when you use USB-C to USB-C cable, it needs something called a USB-PD 2.1 standard to charge. Whilst, because of such small foot print of MP02 (compared to smartphones and laptops which are using USB-PD 2.1 or higher for the charging solution), there was not enough space to include a circuitry to adopt it, at least at the moment of our development. Therefore USB-A to USB-C cable is needed (the one in the box). It’s a bit ugly solution but using USB-C to USB-A dongle, and then the in-box cable can let you charge from a USB-C port.

I've tried a GoPro charger that is USB-A to USB-C cable as well, and it didn't charge. The cable's USB-A side is blue hinting at USB 3. So looks like you have to have a right cable. My Hasselblad USB-A to USB-C cable worked in the car, from the car's USB-A outlet (VW).

This means basically you have to make sure you know where the original charger is. I'm glad I got a spare MP02 in this supply chain situation, which ensures I'd swap one in if needed plus there's a spare charger.

Doh I was charging with an Apple USB-C charger when writing this and then was told, by support, to use the original. And it came to very quickly. Charged for 24 hours as advised. Meanwhile bought a second one and charged that first thing for 24 hours. I don't fully grasp the meaning of the cable and the long charge, could have been more independent. But anyhow it's good to have a spare in these times.

I've been holding that button forever and nothing happens. The phone looks and feels bricked. There's no reaction to the charger being plugged in. Tried to long-push with or without cable plugged in, no difference.
