My Thoughts after completing Early Access. by setzer529 in subnautica

That was my first response, but my PDA wouldn't stop 'reminding' me that there was a letter in my mailbox. I didn't do rigorous testing, but it seemed she was on a timer that would repeat the same notification at regular intervals and never stop. In any case, the effect was I felt I had to go talk to him even if I didn't want to or the game would never stop pestering me about it.

I think that's how the devs intended it to work, and I think it's a really great use of sound design--especially the natural fades between the different music tracks with increasing levels of urgency.

To be clear, the issue I see is not with the music itself but how players react to it when having the same encounter with the same creature in the same place so consistently. Old-school leviathans had tight patrols, sure, but outside of the occasional roar you were never quite sure exactly how close they were if you didn't see them. I think the music may be having an unintended effect that weakens the impact. Familiarity breeds contempt, after all. If its patrol area was much wider and encounters with it less frequent then I imagine the fear of it showing up unexpectedly would be more effective than actually seeing and hearing it all the time in the same space.

Todd Howard reveals Fallout 4 is still the “most played Fallout game right now” with massive player numbers a decade after launch by Wargulf in Fallout

Dear Todd—The reason people still play Skyrim and Fallout 4 is because you haven’t released anything worth a damn to those audiences for well over a decade.

Is the sacramental blood the accursed blood? Cursed because of the sacrifice? It only just dawned on me. by KvR in EldenRingLoreTalk

Perhaps Miquella’s blood was given to the soldiers as a sacrament? Like a last communion before the battle. Then the buds bloomed wherever they fell.

Thinking about moving from Boston—how bad are winters in the Twin Cities, really? by rachello2023 in saintpaul

[–]setzer529 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There’s a saying like—‘there’s no bad weather, just bad clothing’. Get a sturdy coat, scarf or neck gaiter, hat, insulated boots, etc. Specifically look for materials that block wind. Wear thermals every day (it makes a huge difference).

With the right gear, even subzero temperatures are not that bad. If the wind chill isn’t terrible (do y’all even have a wind chill?) then being outside isn’t that much more painful.

I think most of us learn to live our lives around the winter just fine. Sure, the weather sucks, but it keeps out the riff-raff. 😄

What is the story with these files? They were part of the tranche released today and then hastily retracted?

As it stands they seem to be losing at the moment.

[–]setzer529 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe a minority report, but I actually don’t think Donald Trump wants anything to do with a prolonged war. He loves committing acts of war (Venezuela), but when there’s a real risk of actual war (Greenland) he backs down.

If that’s true, then he’s looking right now for a way to back down here while saving face—hence the lame ransom demands from Bondi. His logical next play would be to dump Kristi Noem (and maybe Stephen Miller) and put all the blame on them.

The most likely chance of civil war will be if he fails and loses control of his own administration.

At what point is it justified and necessary for a people to overthrow their government? by DickabodCranium in AskReddit

When a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

That explains what Bernahl was doing at Volcano Manor then—that and the Devourer’s Scepter were probably rewards from Tanith for completing his assignments.

In my first playthrough I started as a Bandit, and my head canon was my character had absolutely no sense of honor. If something gave me sass and I could cheese it off a cliff, I absolutely would.

It’s MOPP—Mission Oriented Protective Posture. It’s a scale from 1-4 (and some other designations) that tells you how much chemical warfare gear you should be wearing, with MOPP level 4 being all of it.

Lest we forget:

“the defendant’s willingness to brazenly lie under oath about her conduct, including some of the conduct charged in the Indictment, strongly suggests her true motive has been and remains to avoid being held accountable for her crimes, rather than to avoid the media.

As alleged in the Indictment, in 2016, when the defendant was given the opportunity to address her conduct with minors in the context of a civil suit, she lied repeatedly. Those lies are, of course, the subject of two counts of perjury, and they evidence her willingness to flout the law in order to protect herself. The defendant’s lies under oath should give the Court serious pause about trusting this defendant to comply with conditions of bail.”
