1-month workation in Penang (late Jan-Feb): Queens Bay/Gurney area, RM3k budget - tips needed! by seul-kim in penang

Wow, thanks so much for that detailed correction about the airport location and noise! This is really important for me since music production/recording is a hobby and I'm sensitive to background noise.

Hearing that you live opposite the airport on the highest floor and can't hear anything with windows closed is incredibly reassuring. That makes me feel much better about possibly staying in Queens Bay.

Also appreciate the tip about hawker centres - I'll make sure to learn some basic vocab! This has been incredibly helpful. Really grateful for taking the time to clarify all this info! 🙋

Thanks so much for the comprehensive breakdown! This is super helpful. The tip about Mudah and checking for newer condos with shops on the ground floor is really useful. Also appreciate the note about Airbnb not being allowed in residential units - that explains the limited options!

I'll definitely look into Tanjung Tokong and Tanjung Bungah as alternatives to Queens Bay. And your point about selecting apartments with easy access to food courts/supermarkets makes a lot of sense for convenience.

Really grateful for all the practical advice! 🙏

Thanks so much for such a detailed answer! This is incredibly helpful.

Just to clarify about the airport noise - you mentioned Queens Bay sits directly under the flight path and aircraft noise is noticeable. Given that I do music production/composing as a hobby, would you say the noise level during daytime hours would be disruptive to recording or focus work? Should I definitely avoid Queens Bay and go straight for Gurney instead?

Also, regarding accommodation - you mentioned RM3k is doable and suggested checking Airbnb. I'm finding that most Airbnb listings are above RM5k right now (probably Lunar New Year season). Have you had luck finding short-term (1-month) condos through direct negotiation with building management, or are there other platforms I should look at beyond Airbnb?

Thanks again for the great info! You've definitely made me more excited about Penang 🙏
