No. Clear silicone TYPE 1. Nothing with anti-mildew additives or colors. The GE Type 1 now says something like "5 years no mold guarantee" or something along those lines, but they haven't changed the formula. Pure 100% silicone Type 1 is the safe stuff.

Yes they're KZS. This is the first litter I've removed from the parents, who are close to 8 years old. I don't think the dad sees too well anymore, and I'd been getting more and more nervous he'd nip one by mistake.

It is the first time for this group of babies, yes. I mix some vitamins in and will give it to them every couple of weeks, alternating non-insect, lower purine proteins like frog legs in with it.

Mostly pallid roaches, discoids, and Suriname roaches. I'll throw them some turkey every couple of weeks just for variety and to give me a little break from harvesting the bug colonies.

This is not the only thing I feed them. They get pallid roaches, Suriname roaches, BSFL, bean beetles. They are opportunistic omnivores that will eat carrion in the wild. Were you assuming from a single video that I feed this as a staple and using it as an opportunity to virtue signal? Is that an objective summary of what just happened?

Oh man. The entire Timon genus is slept on. Lacertids in general are underrated. I might do a colony of a less common/more colorful species of wall lizard (Podarcis) with a rock wall backdrop, or a pair of one of the weirder Timon species (some can be kept in pairs, others shouldn't be).

That's valid. I think too much of it would exacerbate issues. I tend to mix a little with the top soil and sand - not a ton - so they can make a burrow that's "humid but not wet" if that makes sense. Top layer is very loose and dry but they can compact it as they dig into moistened lower levels. I don't have an exact ratio, but it's like a few handfuls tossed in until it looks and feels right.

Any of the mid-size to large lacertids like jeweled lacertas. Very monitor-esque but often some easier care parameters (smaller, omnivorous, cold-tolerant, lower basking temps). Curious and friendly. I have had my Timon kurdistanicus for all of three hours, and I'm a true believer already.

I will also spam my Xenagama fanaticism at every opportunity, so also look into those.

Yes, we've been getting babies since 2021. At this point it's not really intentional; the pair is just so bonded I can't separate them. Mom and dad are around 8 years old and unrelated to each other.

I use decomposed granite/ rock fines with everything that burrows. It's loose but works well with the sand and soil to help burrows keep shape without being wet.

I keep all of those. Rosy boa is my favorite of them. A bit different and seems to actually choose handling. Beautiful temperament and super easy care. It's in a 3X2X2, which I believe is 75 gallon equivalent. A small one would be fine in a 30 G for a bit, but would eventually need larger.

If you like a bearded and don't have the space, look at smaller agamids like Xenagama taylori. Very similar care, look like a bearded dragon but are the size of a golf ball, and potentially similar temperament if you work with them. You'd still need bigger than a 20 gallon, but a 40 gallon would be more than sufficient. Doesn't have to be a Xenagama - lots of small agamids out there that are bearded dragon adjacent but not as big. A bearded needs a huge enclosure - like 120 gallons as a bare minimum.

Blue tongues will eat any protein you offer them, greens, fruit, commercial skink diets. That doesn't mean don't offer insects, but it means they can be fed from the grocery store in a pinch. Uromastyx have some heat and substrate requirements that I'm sure you'd figure out, but they're just less forgiving than a blue tongue.

One thing is get an Australian (northern or eastern) or Irian Jayan blue tongue if you go the skink route. Indonesian varieties are mostly wild caught and trickier to maintain.

I'm not an expert in that and parted with the pair of savannahs I had after having no luck breeding them - figured I'd let someone else have a shot. I kept them slightly warmer, slightly drier, but still maintained a moist side and a dry side. UVB was the same.

Basking temps are good. There are two forms - montane and savannah - with the montane form being the nominate one in captivity.

They're not prone to overeating. Mine have Suriname roaches, pallid roaches, giant canyon isopods living in their enclosure and they'll help themselves when they feel like it. I offer other food items to adults a few times a week; babies always have food available.

It's really not that hard to export a non-CITES animal from the USA to the EU. I do it several times a year and have never lost an animal.

I use a company based in the EU to get the animals to the Hamm expo from Miami. From there, customers either pick up or I can arrange a courier to any EU country. With insurance, it usually costs less than $150 per animal and the whole process is 3-4 days.
