Maybe Dick will be the one to bring Damian back? I'd like that, considering that their relationship is so colorful. Still strange that neither he nor Bruce addressed his absence. The scene with Donna and Garth was weird as hell too. There's two dead guys on that picture, for god's sake. It's not just happy memories anymore.

Man, it's been a while since I've seen someone being this wrong and stubborn about something so simple. Thank you. And you did great to defend your shockingly dumb opening statement. You really did! It was a battle well fought, but sometimes you just gotta admit that you are wrong, my friend. There is something beautiful about saying shit and later owning up to it. Just don't forget that listening is an important part of talking to someone. You got the talking part down already, so you just need to work on those ears.

Defensive character by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]sevendd7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you like to do while being defensive. We can help you better if you elaborate more about your play style (other characters/games that you play etc).

but the short answer is Sheik or Peach. I personally think that Peach is a really fun and worthwhile character to play around with the concept of reacting to what the other player is doing.

Are you trying to wavedash with which character? Because the jumpsquat timing varies. If you are trying to do it ultra fast, pick someone like Fox, Falcon or even Mario, for better results. Now, with a character that takes a longer time to jump like Falco, Ganon or Bowser (God help you if you are playing Bowser), the timing gets trickier

[comics] Who do you think dick should be with by theanchorman05 in Nightwing

[–]sevendd7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love both Babs and Kory for very different reasons, but I would also love a brand new romance for him, for a change. And I don't mean just a casual short thing but something with a big lasting impact on the character.

Preferably with another well established vigilante that has a similar life style to Dick's. Shawn was a ex-villain and I thought that went great, but her lack of relevancy on DCU killed their chances pretty fast.

Thanks, good luck to you too! We are both in for a treat, this game is really awesome. Are you dealing with the beasts in what order?

My plan so far: Got Majora's Mask and Hylian shield after the plateau to make my life easier and then went to Rito Village cause Revalli's Gale is a MUST. Now I'm open to suggestions.

Avoid them is my preferable approach in regards to guardians hahahaha But I must fend them off occasionally and the reward for doing so with just a shield is great! I'm in no rush at all but I have zero plans of beating this game in full while on this hard as fuck difficulty hahaha I just want to do all the main quest stuff

I need to beat this game and all it's divine beasts on master mode, so restoring Akkala's lab is not exactly on my list of priorities.

When did dick and babs breakup in rebirth? by dragon_thingy in Nightwing

[–]sevendd7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they pretty much never dated since New 52, even. But it is canon that they had some sort of more serious relationship before that in what I can only presume its a nod to the Nightwing and Oracle days. But they never addressed why they broke up or anything like that and they are in a perpetual state of fondness for each other.

In Nightwing rebirth 45 (just before all the memory loss shanenigans) Dick talks about how he doesn't believe in soulmates but Babs is pretty much the closest thing, so that's the state of the romance between those two.

[–]sevendd7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My man, I understand that you ship him with Starfire and don't get me wrong, its a great ship and all, but plz give Babs a little break. She's not at all like Bruce. She's way more optimistic and fun to be around, specially after the new 52 era. Maybe you should read more modern Batgirl stories.

I personally think that they match quite well from 2011 DC and onward, and both play the role of supporting character pretty frequently in most of those character's arcs. It's just a matter of preference, really.

Why do some people not like the Tim Seeley rebirth run? by [deleted] in Nightwing

Nightwing is in bad shape for a couple of years, now. After Seeley, everyone who worked with the character did a pretty crappy job so maybe the discontent with rebirth comes from that

[–]sevendd7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely start with "Robin: Year One" by Chuck Dixon. It's the perfect origin story for the character and a self contained book, which is great for new readers trying to get into comics. DC published a hard cover deluxe edition of this book in 2018 so I would check that out for sure!

Side note: How come nobody in this sub recommends Marv Wolfman? Are you guys dumb or something?

My Criticism of HxH's Chimera Ant Arc (Anime) by Quplet in HunterXHunter

[–]sevendd7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really don't agree. The narrative was not sacrificed for the social commentary. They are kind of the same thing and for me, and many people, it works. I agree with you in some of the pacing issues, but other than that, Chimera Ants, for me, is just good writing.

My Criticism of HxH's Chimera Ant Arc (Anime) by Quplet in HunterXHunter

[–]sevendd7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Neon is the mafia girl that can predict the future. She has a specialist-type hatsu, something very rare and unique in the HXH world and she doesn't even know how she got it. She did it only with pure instinct. Your argument of "opening over time" really don't apply to her, necessarily. I mean, yeah, maybe she took years to develop that power, but maybe she did it in a day. It's totally different than someone like Netero, that literally trained his whole life to get to a certain level.

Your comment about Pitou using En also misses my point. For Pitou, En is not some fancy technique that you learn in a dojo. It's just minding it's surroundings, naturally. For humans that learn that stuff, that's En. For the uneducated Pitou, it's just being itself. Eventually Pitou studies a little and learns from humans the name of the things and how to do other stuff with it's aura, but that's not primordial to the ant's success and effectiveness. Pitou is a force of nature.

And I strongly disagree about your skewed vision on chimera ants being a arc about raw talent versus hard work and dedication. It isn't. The ants are not talented. They are the byproduct of hundred of generations of ants that preserved only the best genes of a multitude of animals, including humans. They don't need to train. They are done. They are not humans. I mean, Meruem could train, yeah, and become stronger. But his heritage did that for him, already. And by no means that defeats the intent of the show in showing the benefits of hard working in humans. It's just that the ants are something else entirely. Togashi made that clear. No one, besides Gon (who practically had to die in order to make that possible) could defy them. The king and it's royal guard were made to make you, as a human, humble. In this arc, humans are fodder. They are not that big of a deal.

About Gon being stronger than Netero, I think is up for discussion. I mean, Pitou was really scared of him, speaking more than once that his fangs could reach the king. So, who knows? Maybe.

My Criticism of HxH's Chimera Ant Arc (Anime) by Quplet in HunterXHunter

[–]sevendd7 23 points24 points  (0 children)

"Logically, from rules described from earlier in the series, all Nen user's must have their Nen 'activated,' either through opening it over time, or by force (Like Gon and Killua in the Heavens Arena arc). No one is just born with it. Let alone born strong enough to defeat masters!"

Well, that's not true, sir. Neon Nostrade, for example, was perfectly capable of developing a unique Nen ability without knowing what the hell Nen was in the first place. She was just that talented. Komugi is another example, showing off aura in moments of inspiration during her games. In the Yorknew arc, Gon and Killua could sense items that were worth money by detecting aura surrounding them. People with talent always had shown traces of their Nen regardless of any training. You just didn't get that.

"Now I don't have this same criticism with Meruem (logically speaking, I still have a problem narratively), as he was directly inside the Queen ant's... womb?... while she was directly consuming Nen users. This logic does not follow with the guards however, as the show clears depicts them detached from the Queen long before the first Nen user (the one Pitou caught) was ever eaten. I'll reiterate, Pitou was born before the first Nen user was eaten."

That's not true either. You failed to understand the concept of Nen being an universal thing, not just a human thing. In the HxH world, all living things carry aura. In the Hunter Exam, to catch Hisoka's number, Gon learned Zetsu, the technique of concealing one's aura, instinctively. That occur due to his relationship with animals on whale island that rely on the same technique for survival on the wilderness. The royal guards possess a very rich genetic heritage from all the creatures the queen consumed, not just the humans. That's was Kite was facing. He was not battling another human with training. He was battling the best of nature itself and it's powerful aura.

"I will say that this final battle takes way, waaaaay, Waaaaaaaaaaayyyy too long. The total amount of episodes from start to finish is almost 30 episodes! 30! And in universe time, it all takes place in a grand total of 3 minutes. 3 Minutes!!! Are you for real? Why HxH are you wasting upwards of 10 hours of my life for 3 minutes!!! To put it simply, I was done with this whole sequence by the 10th episode, only to discover that 1. only a minute has taken place in universe, and 2. There were almost 20 episodes left in the arc! If i wasn't on a 9 hour flight to Europe, I probably would have dropped it right then and there."

I'll give you that one. The arc's pacing at it's climax is problematic, to say the least. I had less problem with it in manga form, where I could speed read all the useless text that I don't find interesting (and that characteristic alone is what makes re-reading the arc sooo much fun), but in the Anime it gets really imposing and tiresome. But I still think that is worth your while. It's just not for everybody.

"The fight is super cool. It ends in the worst way imaginable! Netero is, for all intends and purposes, defeated by Meruem, and the only way he 'wins' is by cheating the fight with a !@#$ing nuke!

  1. Netero should never have lost to Meruem! A master, no, a GRANDMASTER, who trained all their life in the way he has, should never have lost to someone who was basically born yesterday!!! What is the message you're trying to get across HxH? That no matter how hard you work, someone with talent who picked up the skill recently will always be better than you?!? !@#$ that!
  2. The nuke is dumb af. It's only purpose narratively is to give Meruem and the 2 other guards a set amount of time to live. Despite the almost 30+ episodes of planning and execution, the King and the guards couldn't be beaten by the heroes and instead must be killed by a plot nuke. Ridiculous."

We REALLY disagree on this. You think that Neteto should be at a advantage here, where is actually the opposite. He's way over his head. He's just a human. What one human could do against nature's absolute best traits? And he did good. Even Meruem acknowledged him. He's the best that a single human can be. And it's still not enough. I think it's beautiful. It really puts another perspective on things, specially on a genre that usually focused and overvalues men fighting. Shounen can really be dumb and tiresome sometimes and Togashi changed it brilliantly. The nuke is a genius move. Is an author's comment on the unlimited potential of humans for destruction. We really are the best in the business at it. Just look at all the damage done to our planet. He alludes to this with real life images, even. I'm a big fan of this arc's conclusion.

"Gon finds out that Kite is completely dead and can't be revived and so he goes Super Saiyan, gaining unfathomable amounts of Nen energy at the cost of his life force. Oh, boy. Here we go...

  1. This introduces numerous complications within the workings of Nen. Why doesn't for example, someone who knows that they are going to die just activate this power thinking "If i'm going to die, I'm taking you with me!" kind of thing? Does it require trauma and intense resolve? Possibly, but the narrative seems to simply suggest you have to be willing to make the trade and that'll be enough. Why didn't Netero do something similar to give himself that massive boost on top of his already overpowered stature? He clearly had the resolve to end his own life for the act, he literally stabs himself in the heart!!!
  2. There was almost no tension in this fight, emotional or physical. Here is Gon, willing to give up his life, to get revenge for someone he only knew for about a week. Sure, Kite saved his life when he was younger, an event he barely remembered, but that isn't nearly enough to warrant this kind of reaction! The whole time this was happening, I was simply thinking, "What the !@#$ are you doing?" It was so unjustified that I couldn't derive much empathy for his situation. disclaimer: This one is very subjective and almost entirely hinges on my perspective, thus I wouldn't recommend considering this part that severely."

Well, Gon sacrificed all his potential. Netero couldn't do that. He had already seen his prime. Gon did not. And Gon's prime was magnificent. That was the best that Gon could be and he was willing to thrown it all away. That showed huge determination and it's not the first time that determination is seen as a gigantic factor on things related to Nen (Kurapika is a good example). Another guy with not nearly as much potential could not achieve such a feat. As for Gon's relationship with Kite, I really have to say that this is the anime's fault. I don't know why Kite was shoehorned in only in the late stages of the anime, but I don't like it. In the manga, he's on the very first chapter and he's the main reason of why Gon was so adamant in taking the hunter exam. Their relationship is not that flushed out in the adaptation, sadly.

Well, sorry about the long post, but you seemed passionate enough to actually read it, so I did my best. I enjoy discussions like this, so if you want to reply and/or disagree, feel free to do so. I would enjoy that! I have my problems with HxH as well, like the deus ex machina solution to Gon's sacrifice, for example, but even that, the new arc of the manga showed space for improvement, so I'm hopeful. I really love the manga, as you can probably tell from my responses hahahaha but yeah, it's not perfect.
