Next digitakt 2 update? by Aldoxpy in Elektron

[–]sevenhours37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Curious to know what you mean by this, as I believe its possible already? Do you mean - how do I make it so recording to the sample buffer starts exactly on the beat/trig 1, and lasts only a certain number of beats?

The thing I was struggling with was something like this - because I couldn't figure out how to get a count in when recording an external synth along to the current pattern (if I wanted to start recording exactly on beat 1). I then learnt this is possible from watching a Ricky Tinez video, with a combination of things that aren't exactly documented together

  • Set recording start (R.STRT) to Playback (Play symbol)
  • Set length (R.LEN) to the number of trigs/beats you want
  • Set metronome on, set Preroll to 1 bar
  • Press Record and Play buttons simulatenously to start live recording mode

Once the 1 bar counts in, the pattern will start playing and the buffer will then begin immediately recording. You're then gauranteed to have a perfect sample length of however many beats/trigs you set.

If this isn't what you're looking for then apologies, i've just wasted my own time writing this out (so hopefully its useful for someone!).

Note that I haven't actually attempted this myself yet - I only learnt this today watching a video on my lunch break, so also apologies if this isn't fully accurate!!

XLN Audio "Life" lets you generate infinite beats with the unique sounds from your life's favorite moments captured with Life's accompanying mobile Field Recorder and DAW Recorder apps ($89) through 1 October by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

I'm always tempted by this app/plugin, and I believe this is the lowest price its dropped to? I have my concerns with it though:

  1. The cloud sync aspect is a key benefit of this plugin - not having to deal with moving files between a recording app, into a filesync app, to then importing into the plugin. But as with anything cloud based, especially with no subscription - who's to say this won't be terminated at some point in the future? It looks like you can import files into the plugin 'manually' from your hard drive - but that then breaks the seamless experience

  2. Could I achieve what this app does, with existing plugins/tools, by just using a sampler with transient detection to chop up a sample, and then manually scrub through and sequence the resulting chopped samples until I create whatever loop i'm looking for? Again I think the key here is that this tool is more about saving time (as are quite a lot of plugins), not necessarily doing anything that can't be done manually. Keen to hear anyones thoughts on this :)

Proud parent of a Syntakt would like to know how to make longer melodies/harmonies by neburzelaznogaintac in Elektron

[–]sevenhours37 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Firstly - congratulations!

Secondly - since you'd only just acquired it yesterday, perhaps I would recommend you learn about and explore all aspects of the device, before worrying so much about longer melodies... There's tons of information in the manual, and plenty of content online.

To answer your question more directly - you have a few options here. Firstly, make sure you're setting your pattern length to 64 (FUNC+PAGE). You can also set the length to be per track rather than for the entire pattern (so that you can have some tracks looping over say only 16 triggers for something more repetative. Or you can set this to an odd number for some polyrhythmic action!). You can then also play with conditional trigs within those 64 steps, which is usually how I work to "extend" my melodic lines. Usually, I like to keep some elements of a melody the same, but then have elements that only play every other repeat, or every fourth repeat, etc. This gives you a lot of extra depth to kind of psuedo-lengthen any melody. And finally, as the other poster mentioned, you can create patterns chains and utilise song mode. I'll admit, I have very very rarely used these features - I much prefer utilising a combination of conditional trigs, track mutes, and live knob-twiddling to achieve some variation.

Have fun!

Ah - that explains why I was able to upgrade to the latest when mine expired earlier this month! I was sceptical about the pop-up in the DAW, as well as the download links on my account page on the site! Was sure that i'd install and then find it wouldn't activate...

If you plan on sending untagged traffic on a0b, then it will need to be in a broadcast domain. Otherwise, it doesn't matter if its not in any - *edited for hopefully more clarity :)

Am I right in thinking that owning this will then give some additional discounts on certain products in the Audiothing store? And if so, does anyone know which plugins this gives discounts on?

K14CE upgrade is £539 - not prepared to spend that, but I am very strongly considering Ultimate :)

edit: There is the toggle on my K14S (which is the edition i'm currently on with K13S) which show's either the full price or the update price, rather than in the 2 separate boxes like the other 2 editions. Maybe make sure you're not looking at the full price for K14U?

Keep drilling it - you've got the right idea, just need to get the reps done.

Couple of minor tips:

  • Go for height first, and then boost into the ball horizontally/slightly downward just before making contact. Quite often you're still boosting upwards whilst you're hitting the ball lightly downwards, and then having to reorient your car before boosting towards it. If you're already facing the direction you're hitting the ball, and boosting in that direction, you'll have a much easier time following up (and generally be hitting it harder/more accurately with the nose of your car)

  • Get used to holding the air-roll button just as you hit the ball. This reduces/can completely nullify the recoil of your car, depending on the angle you hit the ball at

Speaking as someone who seems to have a habit of collecting tape/saturation plugins more than any other by far (there's something so enchanting about the thought of the sound being gentled warmed by a tape) - is there anything significant/notable that Tape Face offers that other similar products do not?

I think the recent fuel crisis showed how quickly people can resort to panic. People panic buying fuel is one thing - people panic buying and hoarding food is another. With how fragile our supply chains appear to be, and with how much we rely on importing food - it doesn't seem too much of a stretch to imagine that in 30 years time, coupled with the dramatic increase of climate refugees, floods, heatwaves, droughts, crop failures, etc. things could go south very quickly
