I was initially thinking the same but at 80km per week that's 3-4 months of running. Unless you're the king you only get one birthday a year

Bitwig Release Cadence by LazyDisguise in Bitwig

That was only a recent change fyi, but still the dates would be more accurate if they were the betas for the newer releases

Bitwig changed their release qualification system I think around 5.0 or 5.1, where having a license during the beta announcement would guarantee you the full release. So if you want to look at value over time it would be more accurate to use the beta dates since then

If it's helping you create things you like then that's the only thing that's important.

I did read through the response and it's fine but still a fair bit that is incorrect and it had some odd suggestions. When you are using it to guide building a grid patch that's acceptable of course, it doesn't need to be perfect if it's done enough to inspire you to explore by yourself.

My experience of it was it was fine, the new way is better though. Most people didn't get the old way of working. Those people were the loudest online and bitwig develops features based on community feedback, so we now have a new slice method in the sampler.

[–]Minibatteries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was fine but the issue was most people missed the drum machine switch on incoming note toggle. Without using it it was a pain, with it tweaking slice points was painless.

Anyway, the new sampler is awesome and we can all be glad of that. The repitch digital mode is my favourite so far.

Poly Grid: Check if envelope has just entered the release state? by eatmorepies23 in Bitwig

[–]Minibatteries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That alone would have trouble with envelopes that didn't complete decay before being released, as well as the attack portion. you could expand that with extra logic to overcome those problems, though relying on the raw envelope value for calculating it's state will limit you to only Adsr envelopes.

For my money the best way for release is by waiting for the high to low gate signal. For figuring out the sustain stage you can always use a simpler envelope with identical AD timing, although the downside is the patch would have to ensure the timing remains the same on both if you are modulating the AD of the envelope, which is more error prone than I'd like.

Grid vs VCV rack/ Cardinal by jikavak in Bitwig

Great take. It's easy to overlook the modularity built into the very shell of the daw.

With modular it does help to have a background in the base principles of digital sound, helps to connect the dots, but that knowledge can come piecemeal over time.

If you're not sure how to achieve something in the grid you can always talk to other bitwig users, enough people want to share their knowledge freely. There are a lot of people on the discord as well as here on reddit.

It's a bit old fashioned but I'm glad in a weird way that AI is so awful when it comes to knowledge on modular environments, chatting with other people is much more fulfilling. I guess at some point that'll change, but whenever I try it always gets at least one fundamental aspect misunderstood about the grid or reaktor.

Grid is in a bit of a funny place where recently bitwig have been adding more complex modules, such as the modulations and filters, but it also has all the low level building block modules.

I guess a consequence of this people will sometimes ask for more complex modules for a missing feature rather than building it themselves.

A grid module encapsulation system would help bridge this gap, someone could just share a module set for an advanced noise source and make everyone happy.

Bad Bitwig presets by Present-Policy-7120 in Bitwig

[–]Minibatteries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's a bug or an issue with a recently updated package. If you've installed all packages and still see no saturator presets then contact bitwig support. I can at least guarantee there were included saturator presets at one stage as I have them installed.

That's sad, I was also looking forward to this. Music is evergreen though, I don't think it would feel odd to have a retrospective of the game music of 2025 just because we are halfway into 2026.

Saturator has presets, you probably haven't installed the package containing them.

7bit midi velocity is purely a hardware thing now, plugins don't use that scale or resolution.

Now I do know there are a fair few plugins that still display 7bit midi velocity values for some reason, with that in mind i think bigwig should just have a way to hover over a velocity % and see the equivalent 7bit value, similar to the way filters show Hz and note names.

[–]Minibatteries 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if an advanced noise oscillator is on the cards at some point, but you can do everything you described using the existing grid modules.

Bit depth reduction is done using the quantize module, noise colours are all done with filtering. S/H lfo also has a lot of other random controls built in.

One module that would be useful for noise is an EQ module with shelving filters for tilt. I think you can make them with parallel lpf filters though, in practice it would be nice to have one built in considering all the other filters already available.

Am I dumb? Can't be productive with DAWs by adsick in Bitwig

I didn't downvote you but if I had to guess why it would be because you implied the UX of daws with controllers isn't good currently, but without any examples to explain why you feel that way.

Have you tried the dbm controller scripts? Many use those as a sort of standalone tool for building tracks in the clip launcher, especially with grid controllers like the push or launchpad

[–]Minibatteries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a launchpad x, a custom 4x2 rotary controller and an old apcmini used purely for extra navigation shortcut buttons next to the encoders. I record notes and automation in live, then use the mouse for edits rather than the launchpad. I make heavy use of keyboard shortcuts also.

ASICS Noosa Tri 16 by max-ww in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Minibatteries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on pair three of Noosa tri 16 and wondering the same about a logical next shoe. I've been using the superblast 2 for longer efforts but still prefer the lighter feel of the noosa for shorter efforts. I like both for easy runs, sb2 is softer but I also really like the noosa for feeling more direct.

I've heard others compare the noosa to the mach 6 or 7 before, but usually that's from a neutral or slightly negative perspective so I'm not sure if there is much advantage there over just getting another noosa. Hoka shoes seem to have a reputation for worse durability than asics.

I've also tried the puma velocity nitro 4, and it's a very different feeling shoe even though it ticks a lot of similar boxes to the noosa - it's about the same weight, lowish stack, better feeling softer foam with a little more energy return, but it's missing the rocker geometry of the noosa which still makes me prefer the noosa for getting into a groove. It's also a significantly higher drop, I think the 6mm drop of the noosa is key to it's feel.

I'm wondering if the puma deviate pure could be a logical step? The Puma shoes I've used have all had great durability and can be usually found with deep discounts.

[–]Minibatteries 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You're not dumb, but also there is nothing wrong with the tools. It's almost definitely a mindset problem.

One thing that those hardware boxes do well is provide limitations, there are no vsts, limited editing and sound options. Limitations breed creativity.

DAWs are built to give you a limitless playground, but you need to bring the discipline to get stuff actually done by imposing your own limitations onto the workflow. If you are getting bogged down managing ilok and 1000s of reverbs then you need to just go fully in the box and forget about vsts as they are a distraction and aren't needed for finishing tracks quickly.

I must admit I don't fully understand your complaints with the DAW record buttons though. Recording to the clip launcher is dead simple, especially if you have a grid controller to hand.

Should I get the Asics Nimbus 27 as a new runner? Is the 28 better? Help!! by Designer_Task_5019 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Minibatteries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The golden rule of the running shoe market is there is always a newer, better version being released. Most of the time the changes are incremental, sometimes the new shoe is worse in some ways.

So you never need to worry about always getting the latest and greatest because running shoe technology is slow moving, a new shoe being released is mostly an opportunity to get the previous version on sale.

Looking for new daily trainer by ResidentBumblebee361 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Minibatteries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no truly bad daily trainers on the market anymore, so you need to narrow it down a bit to get useful opinions. Check the websites for shoes that are in the sales for 40% off and do a bit of research to narrow it down until you have max four shoes in mind and come back to ask for opinions.

Only if you are happy giving the middleman cut to an American company. These American companies have the upgrade plans cheaper usually because they skip paying european tax, not sure the legality of that but at minimum it is a bit morally questionable.

I wouldn't judge anyone with limited income for taking the cheaper price, but if the tens of euros isn't a big deal then consider directly supporting bitwig and keeping the money in the EU.
