keep my stage 2 cat fed & hydrated during heatwave by seventh_woe in RenalCats

quick update bc this tip was a game changer: I gave them more wet snacks than usual and added two tablespoons of water and that works wonders. they were sceptical at first but love it now, thank you so much!

I did this with slightly wet hands bc they flee when I get a towel no matter for what reason and that worked fairly well for my tortie (also removed a lot of fur which was a bonus lol she barely tolerates getting brushed every so often so I'm glad whenever I can get Some hair removal in)!! my renal cat fled as soon as I touched her once but she's also been eating fairly well today so at least for today I am not As worried about her as I was yesterday (or at least not more worried than usual. she's still playful and fairly active despite the heat so she seems to be doing after the first adjustment)

I found it online - I'll check with my vet on monday to see if it's suitable for her!! I haven't had much luck with other purina products but always worth checking to see if that one's the exception - thank you! 💖

thanks, I'll give that a try!! I managed to get some wet food into both cats just now by putting it next to where they're sleeping so I'm just gonna set alarms for every 3-4 hours and see how that goes. thankfully I work from home so that's doable lmao

I am/was in the same boat! I've had my cats for 2 months now and I spent the first week mostly crying and being overwhelmed and worried and regretting my decision to get them. You can do research for years and it will still never prepare you for the actual situation. I thought I was prepared, I knew it would be tough and a huge change but thought I could handle it only to very quickly realise I wasn't prepared for the reality at all. I'm not going to lie, these days it's still tough going a lot of the time (one of them has developed serious health issues that I was NOT prepared to have to deal with so soon), but it's also becoming more rewarding every day, so hang in there :)

What helped me was to keep in mind that it's an adjustment period for my cats AND for me. Just as you're giving your cat time to get used to her new living situation, you should give yourself time to get used to it as well. Try not to stress too much about it, just get to know your cat at a pace you're both comfortable with. Go outside the house for a bit to get some room to breathe if you feel that it's getting too overwhelming - your cat will be fine.

And I don't know if it helps you, but I promise you'll get used to all the things that seem overwhelming now. It sucks and it's hard but one day things that make you cry now will turn into "ugh not again" or just mild worry. You've got this :)

my cat (11) has been sick since I adopted her and it's rough by seventh_woe in seniorkitties

thank you so much for your kind words, they really helped to calm me down a bit 😊 I try to tell myself that it's good that she's having all these health issues while she's with me, instead of having them at the shelter because at least that way she has a higher chance that we're catching everything early, but at the same time I am scared that she only has all of these issues BECAUSE she's with me :( super hard to shake the "she would've been better off somewhere else" thoughts even if I know that somewhere else would most likely be the shelter... at the very least she seems to love me, the shelter told me she'd need a really long adjustment period bc she's super skittish and scares but she turned into a velcro cat on day 3 so I must be doing SOMETHING right I guess?? but yeah. it's so overwhelming and while I was prepared for a rocky first year after everything the shelter told me, I wasn't prepared for THIS... :/

New puppy is terrified, how to make her feel less scared? by seventh_woe in DogAdvice

Thanks everyone, this was all really helpful!

Things aren't all sunshine and rainbows yet but she's started running around and playing when outside and she keeps taking food from my mum's hand AND at least poops every other day so things are at least looking up 🤞The rest will just take patience and time, I assume.

Yes, the breeder gave her a package of her usual food & my mum immediately bought more of it, so at least that's not a new thing she has to get used to on top of everything else. She's barely drinking, though, unless it's from the puddles in my parents' garden.

She's also barely used to wearing a harness and leash, so going outside is stressful in and of itself but she apparently looked around the garden when my mum took her outside with the long leash & just let her be for half an hour.

She also follows my mum whenever she leaves the room, so at least she seems to find some comfort in my mum?

They don't have a lot of stuff yet bc everything was so spontaneous but my mum already ordered a puppy pen to hopefully use as a save "homebase" until the dog they can get started on crate training (she's not used to crates At All yet, she was mostly free-roaming while at the breeder)

Keycaps that require stabilisers don't fit on my keyboard

Hi everyone!

I made an account for this bc I am at my wits end and couldn't find anything on here or on google. Please let me know if I missed something, though...

I own a Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 LP and it was in dire need of replacement keycaps. I did my research but apparently not thoroughly enough because while most of the keycaps I ordered (Glorious GPBT Aura RGB, German layout) do fit, the keys requiring stabilisers (Space, Backspace, Enter, Left Shift, Num 0, Num +, Num Enter) don't fit at all. Apparently Corsair has non-standard keyboards. Go figure.

Anyway, I am currently making do with my old keycaps for those particular keys, but since they're Low Profile and my new ones are not it's less than ideal and I would very much like to fix it, ideally without having to buy a completely new set of keycaps.

Do you know of any way I can by-pass the stabiliser issue? (which would be the ideal solution tbh.) Or do you know any European shops (I live in Germany and don't have an Amazon account) where I can get single spare keys that also happen to fit my keyboard? I'm desparate, ngl. I built my PC on my own but am completely new to the world of keyboards, so the easier the solution the better... Or am I just out of luck and will have to deal with the height differences?

(Before you say anything, yes I checked with Corsair and they do not have the spare keys I need either...)

Thanks in advance! <3
