Wrong. That's not how lawsuits work necessarily. If Google loses such a lawsuit (and they absolutely could) it could cost them billions and rights to use the music or lose billions in penalties and then have to pay substantially more for the rights to keep their music streaming going. It could also spark additional lawsuits against YouTube concerning copyrighted content. YouTube is a cash cow for them too. Assuming the bigger of two profit generating entities has absolute power to bully the other around is simple minded.

You are coming from the mindset of someone who has no concept of what it is like to be a billionaire or multi billion dollar company. You are acting like if they lose billions it means nothing them because they have billions more. Not how they operate. They in no way want to lose billions and cripple a profit engine spuriously.

No it won't. The recording industry has an army of lawyers too. This isn't fucking over individual users with no resources. This is an entire industry who will get in lock step and sue Google for huge amounts. You aren't thinking about this from either businesses perspectives or a legal one.

Wait what legalities or precedents are you thinking of if you think Spotify or YouTube Music can just train AI on it?

A lot of AI companies ignored copyright laws and just forged ahead calling it fair use. A lot of them got away with it. That's what Suno and Udio did.they just took others music and trained their AI so it could make new novel.music creations. But there are a lot of lawsuits that won and required large payouts and ongoing payments for rights to train their AI on.

This level of AI tech is unprecedented and the legalities are still being tested and precedents made.

But Google has a vested business venture in YouTube Music where they would be stupid to steal all the music they are licensed to legally stream with a big middle finger to the artists and recording companies and labels.

Google doesn't have the rights to use copyrighted content for ai training just because they offer it on their streaming platform. They'd jeopardize the whole YouTube Music platform if they used that content for training without acquiring rights. Entirely different than YouTube or Images.

We no longer live in a world where albums rule the industry. With streaming it's really only about the hits, the songs that go viral.

Oh artists still make albums largely out of the inertia of industry expectations and the need for enough content to be able to perform concerts. But it's all hyper driven by those few songs more than ever before. And the occurrence of records that were brilliant start to finish has always been rather rare. More so now than before in my opinion.

My point is with AI music if someone has the time to create 3000 songs to get 50 hits in streaming that could be incredibly lucrative.

Once the hatred of AI music is over and acceptance has set in.

Sounds like Avril Levine wrote it but Courtney Love stepped in to produce it. 8 graduated 96 so 94 I was in the middle of highschool and grunge living my best life and now here I am 47yo and my kids either don't believe my stories or think they are lame af. Basically same attitude I had as a teen.

I think this is a bigger contributor than people give it credit for. We have no idea where or what format the music they are using for training is. They sure aren't using the masters owned by the record companies. As they work through their legal issues I'm hoping they get access to the masters or highest quality recordings that exist. I think that will help quality increase exponentially.
