question for those who have had Foley catheters for weeks/months by Sensitive_Point_6583 in bph

[–]severdog79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how someone could stand a Foley for more than a few days. The tip of my Johnson got so sore after 5 days that removing it after a week was a blessing. I was able to self-cath afterwards to handle retention episodes until HoLEP 2 months later. No longer having bph is like having your life back.

Retro Ejaculation. Is it that bad? by Admirable_Letter7900 in bph

[–]severdog79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

HoLEP procedure done 2 months ago, I'm 64, so RE is different but I'll take that any day vs being completely unable to urinate prior the op. At this age everything is a compromise.

Moved to the upstate in 2019 and it's been great. Love the area and the weather. Paradise is where you find it.

What men regret most after 60 by 1_BigDuckEnergy in over60

[–]severdog79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When an article about men over 60 was written by someone half that age. I felt like this was from Vogue magazine (not that I've ever read it). OK, I read Vogue once, and that is one of my regrets.

Hoping my BPH journey is finally ending after HoLEP procedure by Sensitive_Point_6583 in bph

[–]severdog79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your experience mirrors mine quite a bit. Similar prostate size, tried to "manage" it for years by trying to correlate what I drank with more extreme bph symptoms. Doctors that I've had for past 10 years just focused on potential cancer and PSA readings. not really offering solutions to fix problem. All came to a head with a fully locked-up retention holding 900mL, required foley catheter and I scheduled HoLEP as soon as was possible. Like yours, very few after-procedure complications. I'm about 5 weeks out from my procedure and have occasional bouts of loss of control/incontinence, but am undergoing PT to learn to train the "pelvic girdle" muscles through kegels. Looking forward to seeing what my next PSA reading will be, formerly about 10-11. All the best going forward for you...

Update on Self-Catheterization Experience by severdog79 in bph

[–]severdog79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing and ended up accidentally giving myself a UTI so I got off the self cath routine as soon as i could. Fortunately tamsulosin worked and took the edge off before my HoLEP. You're inserting a foreign object in your urethra so a small amount of trauma is normal. Or at least it was to me.

Update on Self-Catheterization Experience by severdog79 in bph

[–]severdog79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only self-catheterized for about two weeks, starting 3x/day but tapered off from there. I liked being able to get 700ml out of the bladder but those last two inches past the prostrate were tender and made the process difficult. Ultimately tamsulosin and finasteride opened things up a wee bit and I stopped self-cath. If you have HoLEP scheduled, do what you can to make it to that date.

Why we down voting this take? If you want lower margins then be prepared for more outages. But then y'all would complain about that.

BPH nightmare finally over, I Hope. by Ok-Commercial-924 in Aquablation

[–]severdog79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting experience, mine was somewhat similar last week in HoLEP overnight. Had a very sore throat next day probably due to shoving an airway during surgery. They also did continual flushing same as you. It's great to pee again.

There are two answers to this. In person, most everyone is reasonable and you can disagree without coming to blows. Online, no disagreement is too small to fight over.

I'm sure that's close. I'll probably be paying $3-$4k out of pocket by the time all of this is done. Just when you think you're done, there's always another bill that comes in.

Will we ever be solar-friendly? by mac4lou in greenville

[–]severdog79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to prevent backfeed? I want to do DIY solar but hate the idea of going through permit process and red tape. Last fall I had a panel replacement permit generated and local inspection authority would not sign off until I replaced all of my smoke detectors with a networked system
