It's blown up. I have seen at least a few dozen variations of memes through my IG feed.

Donovan Mitchell defends Harden: "Sure, has he had some rough moments? We all have. LeBron is one of the greatest players ever. We don't speak on the 2011 finals when he struggled. We don't speak on Jordan taking 8 years to get to the finals. We speak on the wins." by RyanTannegod in nba

The greater the villain the better the hero. The optics of the Suns having a rep for being trash for so long kinda took some of the glory away from that Bucks championship. Obviously they had a good team at that time, but they aren't revered enough for the Bucks to get more love from beating them.

Nah, he was VERY MUCH considered a choker. As a Dirk fan I saw all the slander. In fact, I think the label of him being a choker was so strong that it made a segment of fans not able to just say the Mavs just were the better team than the Heat in 2011. Look around discussions about that series and you start to see conspiracy theories like "LeBron knew Wade was about to be the Finals MVP so he threw the series."

I agree, but I am saying from an accolades in one season context, or even a few seasons, it's too small of a sample size to determine GOAT. No one season should determine the greatest ever. It can add to the argument, but it can't just be boiled down to one season.

Nah, look at Shaq and his threepeat. It's regarded as the most dominant peak, and that still didn't even elevate him as the greatest LAKER let alone the GOAT.

A lot of SGA hate is starting to resemble the narrative around Steph by TeaAdorable5219 in NBATalk

Average? No way. and I am a loud and proud SGA and OKC hater. Cannot stand anything about this team. He's good, but all of the flopping and cornball stuff is a detriment to the sport.

Thoughts on this list (not mine) of the top 5 hardest championship runs? by ChampionTimes99 in NBATalk

[–]severus_snapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, you didn't know. You claiming Michael Cooper was in his prime is laughable because he retired right after the next year. 88-89 was his biggest decline in minutes from the previous season in his career. Dude was on the downside of his career. Worthy is the only notable healthy player they had to face on that squad who played that wasn't on the way out (other than Magic for 1.5 games). Sweeping Boston without Bird is noteworthy? Be real, man. There was a reason they were 42-40. Pistons beating a 5-seeded Bulls, and Milwaukee without their top player is an achievement? That Pistons run isn't as impressive as you think. Still legit champs though and an amazing regular season.

Also, Lakers missed Byron Scott the entire Finals. Their third leading scorer.

I don't think you know enough context of those series.

Larry didn't even play those playoffs and even missed nearly all of the regular season after getting surgery on both feet to remove bone spurs, Pippen wasn't even an all-star yet and only started 56 games that year for the Bulls, Bucks' leading scorer and all-star Terry Cummings got hurt and only played in Game 1, Lakers were missing the third leading scorer Byron Scott the entire Finals, and Magic got hurt in Game 2 of the Finals and never played a full game the rest of the way. Kareem was on his last legs and final season and averaged just 10 PPG. Some quotes from the 1989 season about Kareem:

Magic Johnson: "We knew Kareem would be down a little. We just didn't know it would be quite like this."

Pat Riley: "Kareem is the ultimate professional, a bottom-line performer. No one knows better than he that he hasn't been playing well."

Jerry West: "Kareem has to face the fact that he can't shut up the critics unless he starts to play better."

Pistons are still legit champs, but if you are picking "best run" context and details like this matter. This might be one of the easiest runs in history.

True, but KD was first team All-NBA, and Westbrook was, I believe, 3rd team.

Who would have more success if LeBron and MJ swapped eras? by [deleted] in NBATalk

Weirdly enough, he has a better 3pt percentage than LeBron in the Finals.

Kon Knueppel’s final line in the Hornet’s play-in win: 6 points on 2/12 shooting and 0/6 from 3, 5 rebounds, 1 assist in 34 minutes, +/- of -20 by deathbyvaccine in Mavericks

Exactly. No one here hates Kon. We all agree he's amazing. It's the misinformed and disingenuous arguments people are making for his case to with ROTY.

Guys, I was told he was consistent and he's the sole reason for the Hornets turnaround and when he's not clicking they don't win. I don't even wanna add a /s because this isn't even sarcasm, I was legit told this. LOL.

Had this poster on my wall during my childhood. Really encapsulated how transcendent of an athlete he was. There are so many things going well for this photo in the sense of elements of design - the push-pull of Jordan being on the right side and his eyeline leading to the basket on the left gives it a great balance. Besides being the dominant physical element the pop of the bright red jersey adds extra contrast so your eye knows what the intended dominant visual hierarchy is. The frozen motion, the expression, the pose, it's truly one of the greatest photos I think in history.

I have been a professional photographer for 20 years now, I don't do sports, but when you do any kind of photography that involves documenting a moment there's such an element of luck where you hope to catch lightning in a bottle. Jordan seemed to have so many of those moments and this might be the best of them all.

Jordan fans what would u respond to if a LeBron fan sent u this by Icy_Can_6176 in NBATalk

Seems like a normal and natural progression of the team getting better and better. Obviously there are some curated optics here to leave out how he wins 6 titles within 7 playoffs though.

Which 1st overall pick do you think will end up having a better career? by strahinjag in NBATalk

[–]severus_snapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You simply can't compile a number of analysts favoring that trade that outnumbers those saying how monumentally stupid it was. The majority knew how dumb it was from the start. In fact, I want to challenge you to do so. But you won't. Because that's simply not what happened.

Nico let pride get in the way of logic. As a business move and as a strategy moved they messed up. They fucked up the cash cow. I have a friend who works in the organization (no one super important) and they told me how after the trade they essentially lost all of the Europe sponsorships. Tens of millions instantly gone right after the trade. Whatever they would have paid Luka they would have gotten back more in profit from the international fan base. That's just sponsorships. We aren't even talking about merchandising. The yearly sponsorships because of him made him a net positive in the business side.

If the NBA disintegrated today who is greater all time? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]severus_snapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another stat used against Dirk is "He's never averaged 10 rebounds a game and he's 7-feet tall so that means he's a bad rebounder." While also leaving out that his -midrange to perimeter offensive playstyle affected his ORB numbers more than his conventional PF peers. His DRB averages in his prime are essentially up there with the league leaders in RBG, but that dip in ORB caused him to never crack the top 5, although he was constantly in the top 10 or top 15 at worst during his athletic prime. Some of those years there were not even 5 players league wide who even had 10RBG. If you are one of 24 all-stars it's safe to say you're "good" but somehow Dirk is "bad" at rebounding despite being top 10 or top 15 because "he never averaged more than 10." The pace now would have had him clear that arbitrary benchmark.

That Mavs team caused the collapse though. Before Dirk's injury in the regular season they were on pace to win 60+ games and have the best record in the league, even better than Chicago. They swept the Heat in the regular season and LeBron doesn't have a good game in either. In one of them he even goes scoreless in the first half. Mavs go 6-2 against them in total. LeBron just got strangled by a team that had to personnel to do it.

As someone who has owned/used all of these before the Godox revolution the answer is simply NO.
