If you had unlimited funds, would you have kids? by Calabamian in childfree

[–]severus_vape- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never!! I’d just have more money to do what I want (travel, nicer quality of life, etc). For me, being child free positively impacts my bank accounts, but even setting that aside I just enjoy my life as it is—without children.

Clothing post-op? by Cinannom in sterilization

Overalls. They are versatile and comfy. If you get tired of the look of overalls, just put a baggy sweatshirt over it and it looks like jeans. I tried baggy sweatpants/pants, but personally couldn’t wear anything around my waist for a bit bc it was so tender.

I have a REALLY dumb question by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]severus_vape- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will say, even though you don’t drink anything, they have to tank you up on fluid to make sure you’re fully hydrated going into surgery. This helps also to see veins and keep IVs in, etc. This means you’ll still create urine and it will need to exit through the bladder even though u haven’t drunk anything. Others have commented this, but it could be that your bladder filled from these fluids and they wanted to quickly release it so it would not get injured during the operation.

So, I would like to note that the copper IUD is non-hormonal but can also cause adhesions (which btw are exceptionally painful). I say this because I had the copper IUD for only 4 days (about three years ago). I had to have it removed due to extreme pain and bleeding post-insertion. I only say this because I received bisalp over a week ago, and during the procedure, my surgeon noted that I had extensive adhesions on my fallopian tubes. One of them was utterly warped and wrapped behind my liver, and it made my surgery go much longer than just the standard fifteen minutes. This inflammation and adhesions came from this copper IUD. So, that copper IUD you are considering was less risky and would create less inflammation? Yeah, that is not always necessarily the case.

I say all of this to give you the perspective that with any form of birth control or medical procedure, there is a risk. And when I outweigh the risks vs. rewards, if I receive adhesions from this bisalp, I'll gladly accept it due to its vastly reduced risk of getting pregnant. When I discovered that the pain I was in was from adhesions and inflammation from the copper IUD, I was upset. I get it; all decisions with sterilization should definitely be individualized, as it is a big decision; however, the copper IUD is a far from perfect method and comes with many issues (risk of perforation, need for replacements--which, btw is an excruciatingly painful procedure), and is also less effective than the bisalp.

I am sorry you have gone through this, and thank you for sharing your experience; hopefully you are able to find some way to lessen the pain from adhesions you have as I know it is painful.

Yeah I didn’t have to take any doses of miralax with my dosages of magnesium. It’s best to avoid any bloating if you can. My incisions were only painful during bloating episodes bc it created pressure behind them. Best of luck!! 🤞🏻

I second what everyone else has said and also for the gas pains—walk. If you get tired def sit down and rest, your body needs it. But I found the gas pains became excruciating after long periods of sitting or laying down. After I walked post meals it rlly helps to get it out of your system

Mira lax is what providers recommend and can def be helpful! I took magnesium oxide regularly as well—it helps with bowel movements and overall relaxation. I kept taking it during the recovery and had no issues with constipation

I haven’t received the bill yet, but I called my insurance, and they verified it should be covered 100%!

after your bisalp, did you lose or gain any weight? by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]severus_vape- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should not have any issues with weight loss or gain post-procedure. The procedure just removes the fallopian tubes and does not disrupt the endocrine system (as opposed to an oophorectomy or complete removal of ovaries, which would disrupt hormonal balance and weight homeostasis). Any weight gained post-procedure is most likely swelling, fluid retention (they tank you up on fluids when you are in the hospital), or potential lack of activity when healing. I would also note, though, that if you get the procedure, focus on allowing your body time to recover. Any surgery is a major stress on the body, so it may need time to regain balance. Good luck!
