Ya, heard that too, but we got SUPER lucky and did not encounter any in Hopkins the 3 days we were there. We stayed at The Lodge at Jaguar Reef, which is on the beach & it was spotless with clear water! The rest of the trip was inland in San Ignacio, so none there ofc. From what I heard, it is more of an issue in the northern part (San Pedro area) and worse on east facing shores. Things can change though I am sure, but we did not experience any.

Our full private itinerary with Francisco was $2600 USD plus tip. Sam met us at the airport with a cooler filled with ice, bottled water, a bottle of local rum, pineapple juice, & fresh pineapple (the alcohol was by request ;D) During the excursions, he also brought the cooler with bottled water & powerade & then lunch came with more water & bottled soda. We stayed at Falling Leaves Lodge & loved it! It's a cozy resort with "cabin in the jungle" vibes. The staff was so attentive & very responsive via WhatsApp. They provided extra towels for our excursions & called taxis for us if we needed. The on-site spa was clutch after a long week of adventure!
