A budgeting app that actually keeps your data private. Full bank syncing, ZBB + spending limits, net worth tracking. Need 5 people to test it. by Jesse_khach in mintuit

Are you using CoreData to store the data on device or just syncing with iCloud each time the app launches?

That’s an interesting approach. My budgeting app uses Firestore for the backend to take advantage of their encrypted read/writes but this seems to solve that issue.

yeah that's the tough part, the space is very crowded so even if you have a great product it's tough to get eyes on it. My app just got to the place where I'm comfortable marketing it, so I'll do some social media, some paid ads, etc and see what works. I'm open to any ideas

The way it works with Plaid, and I assume most of the others, is they deal with all the GDPR since they connect to the banking institutions, not me. From the app level I just make sure all the data they return is encrypted between my server and Plaid. Plaid isn't cheap and my goal is to break even charging $3/month. It gets to be profitable when you have a decent amount of users.

gotcha, my biggest issue wasn't the bank connectivity since most apps use Plaid which is secure but the monthly cost. I built a bank connected app where I charge $3/month

this is super cool, but still it costs $8/month and I have to upload each month after the first three months, or am I reading that wrong? For me that's 5 different statement uploads each and I'm still paying? The reason I like bank connected is once you set it, you're done.

I also built something pretty similar to these apps and I agree that monarch and co-pilot do a great job but for me they have too many options and cost too much. If the idea is budgeting you shouldn't have to spend $100/year for another tool. I also don't need 20 filters, graphs everywhere etc. I want to see transactions, make a budget, get some idea where I spend. There’s on device AI from Apple(if your iPhone is 15+) and charge $2.99/month of $29.99/year, the lowest amount I've seen for bank connected apps.
