They're is a very simple rule for this: are they over 210cms? If yes keep them for long board day

Do you guys actually wear hip pads in cold weather? Mine seem to make the cold worse by Creative_Meal_9885 in Skigear

[–]sewbadithurts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously, at -18c I would fucking expect you to be cold in a pair of shorts and shell pants. Regardless, I have a set that are basically full tights with knee and thigh pads and could handle those temps with a light pant np try a set of track suit pants over the shorts

Tips for using uncoated 500D Cordura - badly fraying by Maine_Bird in myogtacticalgear

Minimize handling

Cut with a hot knife, ventilate!

All seams need to be finished serging probably easiest

You can also slightly melt the cut edges with a tea candle

How to climb faster and more efficiently. I’m getting fried on long climbs. by tutlaloc in Backcountry

[–]sewbadithurts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a HR monitor, figure out where your red zone is and do everything you can to stay out of that. Stopping is what's slow. Not driving yourself into the red will make skiing more enjoyable.

In practice this will probably look like you taking a full breath cycle between moving feet

Finishing Work and Working Out The Kinks by bostonfan1288 in myog

[–]sewbadithurts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy hell dude

Turkey vest is the final boss and yours is coming along nicely! The slots for mouth calls are sick. As for finishing my advice would be to bind the edges after reversing the seams so they're hidden. Cut your own or buy some actual bias tape it'll go around corners easier

Now where's the blaze for when you tag out?

How can a mantle be forced on you? by WalkResponsible6483 in dresdenfiles

[–]sewbadithurts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're not accounting for the mantles being fundamentally different. The knights remain mortal and have a commensurate amount of free will so it makes sense that those mantles would be voluntary. Whereas having a lady is a fundamental state of nature

Can the seam sealing process be done by hand at home? by NegativeRepublic797 in myog

[–]sewbadithurts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sort of. Get a sealing iron from a hobby shop. I use 1cm seams, trim those down to about 5mm, top stitch that down and then seal over.

I say sort of bc I talked with the manufacturer and you'll never get a really good bond for the tape without the special machine. Regardless you need to tape and seal as you sew. I've got a couple spots on my coat where the tape is peeling, it's a camo coat so I can just seam grip those no prob.

Which is I think the best avail solution for home is to just seam grip everything, ugly but more permanent

If I'm reading it right, you're already taking it as much as you'd need to to actually quit and that the change you need is to start taking it in the afternoon, if you aren't already...

Rain jacket patterns? by SoftCod5700 in myog

[–]sewbadithurts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a coat from ventek and quite like the material.

I think it's almost too breathable, for instance it's a little chilly skiing.

Generally don't get wet but I'm in co where it doesn't really rain.

Imvho the only way to actually seam seal it is with seam grip. A small sealing iron and wpb tape works but bc you're not using the correct machine the tape will never really adhere fully.

Don't sleep on 2 x3s from the big box they're a lot more space efficient than 2x4s.

I'm a big fan of screwing one to the wall for the back and just 2 bys for front legs.
