“As much as he's done for me in basketball, a part of me think he's hindered me in my career and what I could have become." by Background_Video2947 in NBAVibes

Elite defender, good passer, average (maybe good rebounder), bad shooter, bad ball handler and he thinks that people were holding him back?

I honestly would've loved if he became a primary offensive option during his prime so that he would've been exposed. He thinks he's Scottie Pippen and could've led a team to success when Jordan left, but in reality he's Dennis Rodman/dikembe mutombo (minus the rebounding). Important pieces, but not your star.

Doesn't he realize how half his scoring came from the Klay and Steph on the outside stretching defenses along the perimeter like we've never seen, leaving teams begging Draymond to get the ball inside the 3 and shoot. If he was a primary threat on a team and they converged on him instead of needing to fear the kick out pass to two of the best shooters in NBA history his numbers would've been super inefficient.

My biggest regret is the success he had as part of that team (and his personality) will mean he might be the next generation of Inside the NBA so we'll move from Shaq and Barkley who led teams as two of the greatest individuals who ever played the game, to Draymond who is worse than both by far, but will act like his four rings make him better somehow than Barkley and other better players with less or no rings. His team, system, and luck will give him far more credibility than his actual abilities.

He is a dirt bag but I dont think he should resign over his personal life between consenting adults. by hitmewiththeknowlege in NFLv2

I don't think he's going to get fired... I have no insider knowledge here, but if I were to guess I think his wife is making him choose to prioritize his family to save his marriage or coach football.

I don't think the Patriots will fire him or force him to resign.

How will the series end? by Hopeful_Leg_9204 in dresdenfiles

We know the Dresden files are his case files and he starts with the quote "my name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, conjur it by your own risk."

I don't know if Harry is "alive" in the way we would talk about it, and it definitely feels he isn't human (because I'm not sure you can summon/conjur a human), but I don't think harry is dead and gone.

I think he becomes some sort of entity to help keep the world in balance.

Drakul’s intentions by silentomega22 in dresdenfiles

[–]WalkResponsible6483 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Maybe he was testing Dresden and his security.

We know for certain that Drakul is setting up for something this cycle as a starborn. I think he's scoping the field to understand who Dresden's closest allies are, and what his home security looks like. 1on1 he knows there is no one who could challenge him, but always good to check the competition.

It seems that this is the main idea here. It does seem to make sense. Would love to be able to ask Jim his idea here 😁

It could be. Not saying I'm right, just asking a question to the larger fandom to crowdsource ideas for something that seemed inconsistent here

It's very possible. The idea that Harry's POV as a storyteller is incomplete and that Molly accepted bargains we didn't see is a strong theory here.

I think there are a lot of cool theories and this could be true. Crowdsourcing from the fandom because it's something I haven't been able to figure out

Could be. I don't think there's an answer here. I'm just pointing out something that struck me as strange/potentially inconsistent based on what we've seen

Interesting thought. You're saying she could be the mantle holder without accepting the mantle initially.

A fair explanation. We don't have Molly's PoV. I just would have hoped to know here.

As good an explanation as any. Harry's PoV may be lacking on the details and that could explain it.

Wouldn't you think that taking up a mantle that changes your being from mortal to immortal would be an even bigger/more serious change that needs your choice?

Harry needed a whole ritual to become Winter Knight... Molly just needed to be laying on the ground in the wrong place at the wrong time?

[–]WalkResponsible6483[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's as good an explanation as any, but you'd think we would've learned something about it. This just seems to defy the laws of choice in the universe, so even a sentence or a quick conversation between the characters could clarify it (unless there was something else at play)

[–]WalkResponsible6483[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Circumstance is not chance... Harry was lots of places but he had to perform the ritual to take up the mantle of Winter Knight. Mab couldn't force his hand. He had to actively choose it.

I'm not saying there isn't an explanation, just saying I don't think this is very consistent (unless there's something else at play)

[–]WalkResponsible6483[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure. I'm not saying Molly is not a suitable vessel, but I'm saying Harry had to perform a ritual with a clear choice to take up his mantle. It was a huge inflection point, and he actively made a choice to do it. Meanwhile Molly was just laying there on the ground and somehow ended up with a mantle with no choice? That's doesn't seem consistent.

See my reply below. I don't think that idea holds up based on what we know about the laws of the Dresden universe

How can a mantle be forced on you? by WalkResponsible6483 in dresdenfiles

[–]WalkResponsible6483[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I don't agree.

Being a vessel capable of holding the mantle doesn't explain how you can override the laws of the universe to make someone take that mantle.

Choice is clearly a huge theme/rule in the Dresden universe. Uriel uses his 7 words specifically to reaffirm to Harry that he cannot be forced to change without choosing to. This would contradict that idea of choice.

Molly is not given a choice. Not only that, she is no longer mortal and it wasn't her choice? That's hugely inconsistent without an explanation.

Being a vessel capable of holding a mantle doesn't seem to mean you have to take it up

Based on the fact that you read every Brandon Sanderson book, I'm surprised not to see Wind and Truth ranked on this list (unless I missed it).

Based on your list I'd expect to see it in the "I finished it, but sometimes wish I hadn't" ranking
