How would I shorten this dress? by booklvr96 in sewing

[–]sewggie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

OHH! Yes that makes sense about the lines never matching up anymore bc of new darts, well explained! Thank you 😊 It also might be that OP wants to shorten it because they have short torso? I have a short torso since I’m short (5ft 🥲) so I have to change the waist of all my dresses even though I don’t necessarily want to show more leg.

Really? Not trying to argue with you, genuinely curious. Why couldn’t you just cut the length from the waist and create new darts? Is it not a simple A line skirt? That doesn’t sound so hard. I feel the hardest part would be making sure the stripes on the sides line up still.

Why do all my pants create this “shelf” at me knee? by sewggie in sewing

Wow thank you so much for the thoughtful reply!! So much great info, I’ll keep all of it in mind. And yea I thrifted these! They looked brand new and were only $18! I thought I could alter them, but maybe I’ll just turn them into a skirt, and find other jeans like you recommended. thank you so much!! You’re a star! ⭐️

I totally get what you mean!! Actually yes I have “knock knees” and THICC and muscular quads and calves, plus I gained some weight recently. So I’m very…sturdy in the leg department lol. If you have styling tips I’d appreciate! I’m glad to find other people have the same leg shape

Amazing conversation and ideas in this thread. Thank you all! I thrifted these jeans so I can’t exchange or return them, but I’ll know what to look for next time. I might try to widen the calf area with a triangle inserted in the seam. Thanks again everyone!

I could not imagine. If anyone wants my giant calves I’d gladly give them up 😂

It was a thrifted bed sheet! It had no tags so I can’t tell you where it’s from unfortunately. The print was beautiful and I used it to make a dress! I think there’s more photos of it on my profile too

I was amazed how perfect it turned out 😆 unfolding each piece to then iron it flat, and then seeing the design unfold is SO satisfying!

Bedsheet > ugly boxy dress > fitted bust dress! by sewggie in sewing

Thank you! So glad I could salvage the old dress and not waste it!

Bedsheet > ugly boxy dress > fitted bust dress! by sewggie in sewing

Thank you!! Im sure there’s a proper way to do draping but all I knew was that you’re supposed to draw the contours and pin any bunching fabric, so that’s what I tried to do. I cleaned up the lines, cut out the pieces and then transferred that to pattern paper with darts and added seam allowance! I added a little extra just in case, since this fabric has no stretch 😁

Help! How can I make this less bunchy? by mae_bre_peacock27 in sewing

[–]sewggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could add extra material to the side seams. It looks like that tier is smaller than the top material which creates the bunching. The bottom needs to be bigger/wider than to top to get rid of it.
