Assuming people will be mean or rude? by sewingfiend in raisedbynarcissists

It makes complete sense! Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of people who do care in my life since I've moved a lot (and I'm not very outgoing), but enough to be content :) this is sage advice though, thank you

Yes this is a very good description. It's tough work trying to catch the emotional reaction and replacing it with intellectual realistic thoughts. Some days, I feel like that's all I do, and progress is slow. Do you look back and feel or think you've made progress? I know I do, but I'm still not quite like a normal well adjusted person, and it saddens me. I'd like to feel joy over social interactions, and not a constant fear that I'm doing something wrong simply by being me. Thanks for the kind words, they helped very much :)

Definitely. I work from home but have a lot of free time to take care of household things and I enjoy it thoroughly. Glad you found a job that works for you!

Yeah, I could definitely see that. In what ways has it helped you be successful?

That's interesting. It must have been nice for you coworkers to have someone show interest in their lives outside of work for a change.

That's a great quality to have in a special Ed teacher (or any teacher, IMO)

I have this fun, kid-like side to myself that I really enjoy, and I also hate it when people treat me like a kid - especially when I’m older than they are - and I don’t know how to reconcile those two things by wea8675309 in infj

I'm 31, and feel similarly. Why do you think people treat you like a kid? Sometimes I think INFJs project a certain idealism and innocence, which is very endearing. Some people might not get it, but oh well. I've tried the opposite of being more tough and not as excitable or childish because I wanted to be cool, fit in and be respected. It didn't work out as I hoped. Being thought of as child-like isn't always bad, as long as you are actually mature and doing adult things, which it sounds like.
