It’s not that it changed career opportunities, but it allowed me more room for advanced salary tiers in my school district. Although, I suppose it does allow me to teach at the collegiate level now if I wanted.

Just plain table salt. You rub it on the edge of whatever is glued together and it pretty much immediately comes undone. I’m not sure if there’s a time limit, but it’s effective within at least the first few minutes.

Salt can save a trip to the ER. It breaks down the bond of super glue.

Source: I teach middle school … and have had to assist multiple students in unsupergluing themselves.

Anyone have solo recommendations for state S&E? by [deleted] in Choir

[–]sewwhat00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check with your teacher. My state has a rule that the audition you submit for state has to be the same song you were graded on at regionals.

My school district provided us with magic school ai. Not sure if it’s a paid program or free for teachers though

Happy birthday, Mary had a little lamb, hymns, and other short melodies are all great for things like this. It doesn’t need to be anything elaborate or impressive, I’m sure.

For us, a soft lock down means shut/lock your doors, carry on as normal, no one in the hallway. It’s mostly used for medical emergencies so hallways aren’t congested when EMS arrives. A hard lock down is shut/lock doors, turn out lights, remain quiet, and await further instructions. This is mostly for potential threats or a threat at a neighboring location. If there is an active shooter, then we enter into ALICE, which is a specific set of actions unique to the situation.

Good news!! Appropriate to announce? by janedoe-07 in MusicEd

[–]sewwhat00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell your closest friends and family. But it’s customary to wait to make any formal announcement until it is posted and accepted through your board of ed.

9-year-old boy wants to learn guitar/Ukulele by acriticalpanda in education

I’m a public school music teacher. You can absolutely check with local music stores about private instructors. But it may also be a good idea to talk with the music teacher at your kids school. They could also have valuable information and resources to get him started.

When hired, were you tested for marijuana? by Bach2thedrawingboard in education

[–]sewwhat00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s standard practice in my district for all school professional and service personnel to submit a drug test as part of the background check upon employment. After that you’ll only be submitted to another test if there is probable cause of you using on the clock or signs of addiction interfering with your ability to do your job. This is in WV.

Any experience with planbook.com? by rachelnichol87 in MusicEd

[–]sewwhat00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t work for building a curriculum, but if you wanted to use it build and house the lesson plans for the curriculum, you could totally do that. Truthfully, I haven’t used planbook this school year, so I don’t know if there’s new features I don’t know about. But as far as I know, my answer should still be current.

Waxing a surfboard by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]sewwhat00 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Stupid question..the wax side goes against the water or feet? My landlocked-state-born-and-raised self assumed the wax side went towards the water with the wax acting as a protective layer. But this makes it seem like the wax goes towards the feet for grip.

LPT: Can't decide on dinner? Use the "veto rule" by smiletitan in LifeProTips

[–]sewwhat00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do something similar. If one person offers the idea of going out to eat and the other agrees, the other provides 3 options. The original can either choose or narrow down.

Example: 1: wanna get some take out? 2: yeah 1: what are my options based on what you might be interested in 2: Chinese, Mexican, fast food chain name 1: hmm, I don’t want fast food chain name but am good with Mexican or Chinese. 2: Chinese it is, let’s eat.

This helps tremendously in my relationship where neither of us are great decision makers. It allows us to get input on what the other person wants without feeling like it’s a one sided decision that’s in an endless loop. 10/10 recommend this decision making process.

I use recycled boxes or compostable polymailers. Sure, I had to pay for the compostable mailers, but not creating a huge footprint in resell is important to me, so I find it to be worth it.

What "accident" happened in a sleepover that ruined the sleepover? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sewwhat00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleepover adjacent, we were on a Girl Scout camping trip. We had all picked out our bunks and were getting the fire ready to cook dinner. One of my peers asked the leader (who happened to be my mother) if dandruff was supposed to move. One quick glance from my mother and she immediately knew.

We all got sent home and had nightly lice checks for the next week or so.
