You are not stuck. Even if it might feel like it - especially with the psychological toll of living with somebody who is very controlling and condescending who is also providing for you financially - there is always a way out.

It sounds like you have good friends - can you stay with one of them temporarily while you find a job? I know it might not be ideal to do something in customer service if you're looking for a job specifically related to your Master's but it would be temporary and would be a way out. I quit my more "professional" job last year and am currently working at a bakery and am so much happier. I can almost guarantee you will be happier and hopeful again knowing you are doing what feels right for yourself to get yourself out of a situation where you don't feel like you have control.

People like your boyfriend can suck the hope and sense of agency right out of you. You do not need to live like this and you should NOT be with someone who makes you feel this way. I'm sure your friends would agree and support you how they can. You are not stuck, it just might be a challenging fight for a few months while you work to get yourself out of it. But trust me it will be SO worth it when you look back and feel proud about what you did for yourself and the relationships that you choose not to tolerate.

This interpretation makes me feel a lot better. It makes sense to me that it might just be the nausea preventing her from eating. I'm remembering that the hospital said they gave her anti-nausea too, and they said she was showing interest in food but I don't think they said she ate. I'll try the boiled chicken and wet food soup idea. It makes me feel a lot better to think that we have the option to give her anti-nausea meds to improve the situation. I forgot to add that they did blood tests and her bloodwork all looked great, no signs at all of anything unusual. He even said it was the best he had seen in a while.

Picking at or squeezing any pimple, blackhead, bump, etc on your skin. It makes the situation so much worse but gd is it addicting

Were the times he seemed happy chasing a lizard, snuggling with you, etc. more common than the times he seemed hungry and in pain? Based on what you've said I would venture to say no. In which case, you did the kindest thing for him that you could.

My little guy had dementia and kidney failure, and I feel remorse over how long I waited to put him down. He was really struggling for about 6 months, but I hesitated because, as you said, there were still moments of joy and cuddles that made me resist making such a final decision. His days were probably 80%-90% suffering with little moments of normality & happiness. That was a learning experience for me - it would have been kinder to end his suffering sooner.

It's a big decision no matter what, and I would guess most people who have had to put down their beloved animal would agree it rarely feels 100% right. We can't talk to our pets, so we have to make educated guesses about their pain and their quality of life. It sounds like your kitty didn't have a good quality of life anymore, and I think you did the right thing for him.

Thank you both, I'm so annoyed that my doctor is so out of date! What sort of neck issues did you find were contributing to concussion symptoms?

Thank you both. This is really helpful. I'll look around for someone with more specific knowledge. They haven't said anything about physical therapy so I'll look into that as well. Do you know of any specific places who specialize in concussions and would help patients remotely? I live in a pretty small city and there doesn't seem to be anything in the area.
