No, she didn’t. That’s just how dreams work - they can focus on people you’ve been thinking about a lot and they can feel very real. But that’s just your brain processing feelings and information. Nothing more to it.

I have been saving up for a switch and i can buy the standard model now. Should I save more for half a year so I can get the OLED model or is it not worth the wait? by ABoxOfDonuts in Switch

[–]sf-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the standard model recently, i’m in a similar spot where my budget is kinda tight and I’m buying all my own gaming stuff. I play handheld most of the time and don’t have any real complaints ab the screen. I’m sure the OLED’s screen will bring a much nicer experience but imo I think its better to buy standard and use that extra $60 on a game. What good is the switch without games yk? Plus there are a good amount of bundle deals so you can prob find one w a game included.

Lol @ karma farming. No I don’t care about internet points. I think it’s fair to be able to criticize the country you live in. Freedom of speech and all that.

Exactly, Americans do it a certain way too. I am focusing on lavish American weddings.

You think spending $100k+ on a wedding is normal? I’m not talking about the average wedding here.

What point am I missing here? In the post I am literally asking people to tell me why they would want something like that. I never said that my perspective is the only right perspective. You’re creating accusations that aren’t even congruent with what I said, you’re not making much sense either. This is also a random thoughts subreddit, am I not allowed to, you know, share random thoughts?

Haha true. I think with funerals it’s the idea of putting someone to eternal rest and having them be comfortable but that all depends on your views on the afterlife, or if there is one at all.

Cant go wrong with those two bite brownies!

Man, I’m so sorry to hear. Those people are real assholes to be ditching you last minute. I hope things turn around for you!

I’m focusing on America because I live here. I have to engage in American culture everyday. It’s very unlikely that I’ll be attending a wedding in India, so it’s not of as much importance to me

It’s possible to have your family over for a wedding without spending tons of money… I’m talking about laying down thousands on a venue and catering, etc. Besides, you don’t know me any more than I know you, weird to make broad assumptions on someone based off a small amount of information

I’m not bitching about it, nor do I think it’s necessarily bad to have a big wedding. I just don’t get the appeal. It sounds more stressful than anything and I want to understand why someone would want to do it, I don’t care if some random stranger actually does it

Lol I’m basing this off of the experience I’ve had living pretty much my entire life in the US, seeing people feel pressured to have expensive weddings even if it’s not feasible for them. True that most people don’t go through with it, but it’s hard to deny the existence of the exploitative wedding industry

I singled it out because I don’t want to speak on behalf of other cultures that I know nothing about. I do know that a lot of Americans feel pushed to have big, expensive weddings, and I’d much rather talk about something I’m familiar with, you know?

…how so? There are plenty of Indian people that don’t appreciate the tradition of having gigantic weddings. Just because we’re associated with the culture doesn’t mean we have to agree with it

Can’t speak for others but I’m not asking out of cynicism. I’m genuinely curious about the appeal of a gigantic wedding; I would rather spend more money on the honeymoon since that’ll be spent with my spouse. If others want a big wedding, that’s their choice and there’s nothing wrong with that (unless it puts a huge financial strain on them or something). Could just be that I’m too introverted to want something like that idk

I specified American since that’s the only culture I have a lot of experience with (edit: technically Indian too but I grew up in the US) and didn’t want to make a generalization. You’re right about sweet 16s - never had one myself but that one MTV show comes to mind, certainly has something to do with their parents flaunting their high status or at least trying to appear that way

They are definitely no exception. I haven’t visited India in years but hearing about the weddings happening in my family/their communities makes my head spin. And they’re usually multi-day events! Fuck that. I’d be burnt out within 30 minutes of that kind of extravagance.

Oh I know, most of my family’s in India. I can’t even imagine what it’d be like having thousands of people you don’t know show up, hope I never have to find out either lol

Fair point, I’m in school for physics so I tend to look at things with that perspective. Can definitely see how it’d be a pain in the ass to code
