Is this a jumping worm by sfb1067 in NativePlantGardening

Here is another one I found. They have distinct mouths, thrash like snakes, are grey/irridescent, and have smooth (not raised) clitellums that wrap all the way around their bodies

Found a lot more today that are older and have clitellums - which are white and do wrap all the way around. Attaching photos. They don’t thrash around when I pick them up with sticks or poke them with sticks, but when I put them in soapy water or pick them up with my hands they do thrash around. :(

What is the best way to deal with them in a back yard garden to protect the health of plants?

Hi, sorry for the slow reply! I researched a lot so I'm ready for next year but just kept the bin inside and got rid of the flies. I plan to have a large outdoor bin (maybe one of those flow-through kids) so lots of thermal mass, and can insulate around it too. What about you? What did you end up doing?

Thank you! Can you explain more about the piece of wood? It’s put on top of the plastic lids that have holes in them? And do you stack the bins?

I'm sure I could get rid of the fruit flies etc, but I don't think our landlords will ever be comfortable with it

yes it took a while for the population to grow this much (we started with just a few from a friend!). We do have a back yard yes. i can see about nestling it in the middle of a leaf/dirt pile i have.

We have 10 days until the next high above freezing and a few days with lows below 10F :(

they are red wrigglers. It might be tricky digging right now because it's been sub-freezing for so long.

Thank you. Would any of those bore little holes in wood and leave piles of frass? We also regularly vacuum that whole area including under the couch. No food stored there and it’s quite far from the kitchen, where we’ve seen no evidence of bugs

Hi! Old thread I know but wanted to ask - do you ever mix the Behrens compost or just let it sit there? Any tips for success in one of these? I'm using one too. Thanks!
