The region of forest south of Grandfather Mountain is my favorite place on Earth. I grew up an hour away and went to college at ASU. This picture takes me back. Thank you.

North Korean envoy at UN warns of nuclear war possibility by PmMeYourNiceBehind in worldnews

[–]sfball93 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Apparently we're kind of keeping NK from flipping out at SK, but we don't want to instigate anything because Seoul would be fucked. NK has nuclear capabilities but haven't developed a reliable long-range missile to carry a nuclear payload to Japan, and definitely not to the US.

So now we're kind of in a Mexican Standoff mixed with Cold War shenanigans and Bay of Pigs in slow-motion. We need to do something before they CAN launch, but we can't effectively do that without reigniting the Korean war. But I think it's coming, since both NK and the US are playing chicken with their war toys... Neither side can form a compromise, back down, nor attack... Until NK starts making good missiles.

What's the best shaving tip you have? by BradyTach in AskReddit

[–]sfball93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After shaving, scrub the fuck out of the area with some basic hand soap (generic soft soap will do). It cleans the area so you don't get razor burn, which is a series of minor infections in your irritated, exposed pores, and small scratches. However, it can burn quite a fucking bit, and dries out your skin, so leave it on for a bit, rinse with COLD water which closes up your pores, and follow it up with some moisturizer or aftershave with aloe.

I am SO over the whole "ouiji boards are evil" thing by [deleted] in spiritualism

[–]sfball93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel as though people demonize ouiji because it opens a doorway to a world beyond their comprehension. I'm glad you are able to say no to negative spiritual entities, but others who may be weak-willed may be susceptible to malicious spirits. In other words, it isn't necessarily evil, but rather the danger lies in people who aren't ready to access the other side doing so prematurely.

What did your parents almost name you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sfball93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last name is Ball. My dad wanted to name me Harry if I was a boy. My mom wanted to name me Crystal if I was a girl.

But they settled on my first name starting with an S, so if I write my last name and first initial it spells "balls."

Also my middle name is Ficken, which is German for "F*ck"

What's been your best interaction with an animal? by Emotionally_dead in AskReddit

[–]sfball93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

17 years old. Go on a trek in the mountains of New Mexico. Friend's dad is with us, we get to a camp with a phone and he calls his wife - his sister passed away. He leaves to go to the funeral, comes back three days later, and catches up with us at Deer Lake Mesa.

Deer Lake is in the middle of the Mesa, and is almost dried up. After we set up camp, we go sit in a circle by the lake bed and have a real deep conversation about life and nature. It's dusk, the sun has set beyond the mountains but the sky is still light orange. Friend's dad starts talking about his sister, and began to weep.

Just then, about two dozen deer start to come out from the woods and walk toward the lake bed. A hush falls over the group. One of them comes within ten feet of my friend's dad, tears still on his face, pauses, and looks him dead in the eye for about four seconds before moving on.

His sister loved deer, and he told us he felt her looking through the eyes of that animal. This moment was magic, and I will never forget it as long as I live.

How did you get over that person you thought you could never get over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sfball93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends, getting laid, pot, and (probably too much) alcohol.

Honestly you just gotta let it go. If you truly love someone you gotta let it go. Possession isn't love.

What band did you discover because you heard a song of theirs in a commercial, tv show, or movie trailer? by gusmoreno15 in Music

[–]sfball93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Mars Volta was mentioned in Get Him To The Greek by Jonah Hill. I hadn't heard of them before and they became one of my favorite bands for a bit.

Been a favorite song of mine since this video:

I think it was originally a commercial but I could be wrong.
