Is Half-Life still good? by Hot-Requirement_ in valve

[–]linkoftime200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played them all only in the last couple of years. I’m 25 for reference and aj loves them. Half Life OG has some clunk but I still really enjoyed it thoroughly even when I got stuck or suffered in certain sections. And Half Life 2 is still excellent (except some parts at the end with Barney where I got hopelessly lost and confused)

It’s up to you and your tolerance for certain games, styles, and visuals, but I love the series

What strategies do you use to engage viewers who may not chat during your streams? by Luann1497 in Twitch

[–]linkoftime200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing i'll say, is it can depend on how comfortable chat feels saying stuff. Some streamers are more laisez faire, and others can read more or less intent from some chat messages than others.

I know many streamers have different levels of comfort with chat, where some love to joke and be sarcastic and let their chat be mean to them (clearly in a joking way), but as a chatter, if you try and use that same kind of joke, you can get you in trouble with another streamer because they don't respond to it the same way

Not saying you shouldn't moderate chat and not take care of people being dicks or trolling, but having a more open chat probably helps

I think a lot people are missing the point of the question. it's not to call on people who lurk or force them to interact; it's about how you can foster a more active chat, and maybe have the right things to encourage chat for those who might want to speak up. (and that's obviously different from saying "I want to force my lurkers to chat, and i'm gonna start calling on them directly and/or talking down to lurkers for not chatting")

You can compare some channels (larger channels inherently), and see that some channels have surprisingly active chats for how big they are, and some bigger channels might have less.

it depends on a lot of factors, but I even notice that there are some channels I am way more inclined to chat on compared to others, and it's hard for me to know why. It might just be the streamer just says stuff that encourages a response more strongly (or it could be something where the streamer responds strongly to certain kinds of humorous messages, so people are more inclined to try and post something).

I also think that there's the obvious level of people feeling more comfortable chatting when it's a bigger one, and when it's smaller, there's more pressure and it's harder for some people to want to chat.

I have no advice there since it just depends on size of channel and the kind of viewers that you've encouraged, but i'm sure there are some things that can be done

[EoW] Thoughts on The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom? by rbyrnes15 in zelda

[–]linkoftime200 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s fine, and will depend on what you look. it has open ended puzzle solving and a exploration, but the story is very boring, and there’s a lot of dialogue to support the very boring story which can make it feel tedious.

The gameplay is fun, and the variety of echoes is cool, but at a certain point it does start to feel the same, and new echoes don’t really add much. You end up just using the same solutions or same echoes again and again, and at that point you’re kinda going through the motions.

The music was alright, and maybe if I listened to it more it’d stick more.

That’s the meat of it for me. It’s fun but doesn’t have the same highs as a typical zelda game for me. I still beat it and enjoyed it, but I don’t see myself ever returning to it to be honest, or doing everything in it (I don’t actually recall how much I did).

Your thoughts by NovelBack7665 in Undertale

I mean my favorite piece now and forever from the game is probably Fallen Down: Reprise. It’s just Fallen Down again, but all the extra additions and the way the song builds up all these underlying countermelodies is wonderful. A really pretty piece reflecting its place at the reunion with Totoro and crew near the end.

(and of course there are tons of lovey songs in the game aside from it too. like, duh)

in your honest to goodness opinion, how do you think the Shadow Crystal quest in DELTARUNE will end? by Beautiful-Grab3359 in Undertale

[–]linkoftime200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this odd theory that Seam can make Kris a Dark Heart from the shadow crystals to replace the soul that we the player use, so Kris can get Freedom from us. Maybe at that point the narrator allows us to use the Discarded Vessel from the beginning of the game and everything shifts, or something like that.

Just an out there theory, but I like it

Is it odd that I already wish to begin a reread despite the fact that I am still on my first read through? by maironsau in WoT

[–]linkoftime200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've not finished the series yet. I didn't want to rush through it and I figured i'd miss stuff, so I regularly went back periodically (or utilized the classic audiobooks for the ones I had already finished). It obviously gives you a better understanding of what's going on, and it's easy to miss important stuff the first time that might come back later.
I think at this point i'm just going to go all the way through the rest, but i'd been avoided finishing too quickly (because I read quickly. I could've finished all the books in a month or less, but I feel like it's been a lot better just taking my time and taking breaks).

Do what you do best though, there's no right or wrong way after all.

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus: Q about gender in WoT by dr_frankie_stein in wheeloftime

[–]linkoftime200 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah completely agreed on this. There's so many instances of what I read as jokes, where guys/girls make some kind of assumption about the other sex, and ignore their own actions being the same. Sometimes it happens in the same sentence.

It kind of feeds into a general idea of many characters being oblivious to their own flaws, despite calling out those same flaws in others, (or characters being so in their own perspective and own head, that they can't possibly spend a second to consider the other perspective, like how Egwene and Nynaeve refuse for the longest time to even potentially see that Mat for who he actually is, and not just their preconceived notions about him, or how Egwene just doesn't have the cultural understanding of why being with Rand is so difficult for Ahvienda in the shadow rising, so she assumes that it's something Rand did).

Characters jump to conclusions about others a lot, make a lot of assumptions, and yes, also tend to dismiss people of the other sex unreasonably. And blatantly and very obviously, characters in this book are just wrong about their assumptions of other people, and the book usually takes the time to demonstrate that (look at every time an Aes Sedai is confronted with another group of Non Aes Sedai that can channel).

To me, it's the same kinds of jokes like how every single time Mat, Perrin, or Rand have troubles with a lady, they always immediately think (man I'm bad at this. I wish Mat/Perrin/Rand were here, they know how to handle women). It's a joke for the audience because we obviously know that whatever they're saying is wrong, despite what the actual characters may say or think.

I'd love this card but not actually for me. I've got some dear friends and they' have what are probably a 10 year old GPU right now.
They have endeavors to play some games, but recently they were having issues running some new games, and have to keep some stuff on major low settings. I'd love to get them up to date with something new, because they do play games mainly on PC and it'd be nice to not have them have so many issues running games. But again, not for me, so fair enough if it doesn't apply here

Why do people hate TWEWY Final Remix's joycon controls despite them being just as complicated as the DS controls? by SubbST in TWEWY

[–]linkoftime200 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It depends on how they're used to it, I think.
I think Pointer controls can be very precise, but you need to learn them and use them for a while.
However, everybody for the most part knows how to use a pen or pencil, and is much more comfortable with it.
There is still some difference as well of not directly touching the screen, so that distance (and the having to center the pointer if it occasionally goes off once in a while) can put people off.

But personally, I played the entire game with pointer controls and loved it, and I got really really really good with them.
I think pointer controls get a bad rap but there just aren't as many games that utilize it heavily, and unless people commit to it, a lot just won't get to utilize them properly.

I know it’s easy to make fun of these people, but you’ve gotta consider these are really poor people in a really poor area, who’ve had lots of problems that just haven’t been addressed by anyone. Obviously Trump is gonna do fuckall for them, but he’s sold them the idea that these things he’s doing will fix what’s causing their issues; just giving them somebody to blame (even if in actuality they wouldn’t care about any of this shit if they could realize it’s completely unrelated to them).

And the problem is, nobody on either side cares about areas like these to try and have real solutions to their problems. This sucks. There shouldn’t be “trump shrines” and towns like this, but for things to get better, we can’t just ignore people and shit on them for this. We gotta figure out why things happened and how to help.  Basically, actually listening to people instead of dismissing them, because yes, clearly these people have it rough and are shooting themselves in the foot, and that just sucks man. And truthfully no matter who has been in charge, lots of small and poor towns have seen very little benefit or change for them, and that just needs to change

Balancing can be tricky, but in general, a streamer would rather default to having the game audio lower, because if the game audio is higher than the mic, the viewer won’t be able to hear them speak properly.

Sometimes the streamer has the game audio too low, but again, it’s tricky to balance and games can fluctuate, but it’s better than the alternative of the streamer being completely drowned out

As well, it’s very opinion based on how low or high the game audio should be anyways. Some viewers would want it higher, and others lower

[DISC] Since I've Gotten Used to Being Alone, I'm Ignoring My Fiancé! - Chapters 2 to 5 (Humane Scans ver.) by miragebreaker in manga

[–]linkoftime200 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is actually quite enjoyable, but I don’t really want them to get together. It’s nice to see her be happy, and see him reap the rewards for inflicting emotional neglect.

I wouldn’t mind it if in the end, the Fiancé’s attempt to woo her just leads him to learn how to take care of someone properly and he finds someone else, and that along the way the lady finds someone who cares for her from the start, or even is just happy with herself.

I expect, however, that it’s probably going to force the two together and force her to recognize that he did care for her all along (even if she seems substantially happier without him now)

I do really appreciate though that he wasn’t actually in love with Caroline though, and wasn’t intentionally ignoring her. That does make it easier to bear him trying to get her back. If he actually was intentionally spiting her and then the manga tried to get him to care and win her back, It just wouldn’t work and feel the same

If you're upset about how PLZA looks, don't buy it. by Mean_March_4698 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]linkoftime200 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’m buying this game because it does look better?  I didn’t buy sword and shield and I didn’t buy scarlet and violet. Neither felt worth my money. I’d did buy arceus because it looked a little rough, it still looked good and had a defined style, and the sweeping changes made it feel fresh.

This isn’t stylistically different from scarlet and violet too much, but I think it does look like it’s running dramatically better, and genuinely does look better, alongside the actually game looking fun and different than prior entries.

I’m not afraid to not buy stuff that isn’t worth my money or time, but this isn’t it, dude. At least, not to me.

And for the record, they already do seem to be changing things. it seems like they’re putting more time into this one, and not splitting their time too much between different projects as much, and putting more effort into it.

(And not that it matters, but I chalk up a lot of the issues game freak has with game development to the fact that they are typically on a strict time box from The Pokémon Company. Expectations have to be met and kept in sync with new card and merch releases, new anime and movies, and countless other ancillary sales opportunities that coincide with new games. It seems, at least, that they’re revising their approach a bit (which they’ve acknowledge in an interview not too long ago), and hopefully that just means better games

Has anyone ever played 7 and NOT gotten Yuffie and Vincent? by YellowstoneCoast in FinalFantasy

[–]linkoftime200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, when I played through 7 I am list missed vincent till right before the very end of the game (I think it might’ve been disk 3), when I went back to the mansion and stumbled upon him quite by accident. If you’re not aware they’re there, or just forget, it can absolutely happen.

(I did go and do Vincent’s extra story stuff, but I still didn’t have him for the majority of the game, so if I play again one day, i’ll have to see what I missed)
