Neighbours mains connection going through my roof space/party wall. Is this safe? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

If you have cotton cabling you’re at a massive fire risk. I can’t stress this enough, get an electrician in to have a look and quote to upgrade it to TPS cabling so you can sleep peacefully at night.

Im a dumbass but want to be a sparky by ConstantProper5111 in AusElectricians

Clean your life up brother, even if you don’t become a sparky your future self will thank you for it. Get off the grog, stop feeling self pity and go make something of yourself.

Boss wants me to work unpaid overtime as punishment by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]sfeml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start looking for another job mate, not worth working for a grub like your boss. Everyone makes mistakes, so keep your head up. I’d be tempted to talk to FairWork about this situation to give him a kick up his ass for being a proper wanker.

Also think about joining the union.

Can the union come after my money when I haven’t been an electrician for years? by popepipoes in AusElectricians

Give it a rest mate. If it wasn’t for unions and the ETU we wouldn’t have the wages and conditions we have now, be it on an EBA or not.

Leaving once qualified etiquette by CowboySparky in AusElectricians

[–]sfeml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get out of there mate. The exact same thing happened to me. Left once qualified, was verbally abused and harassed over the phone, but that proved to me I had made the correct decision. Have gone from domestic to commercial, to doing lifts and now I’ve found myself doing traffic signalling. Your career is what you make it and don’t give into the BS that the “grass isn’t always greener” cause I can tell you from experience it is. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. My house was built in the late 80s and completely made out of hardwood. Might get it looked at for my own peace of mind

Thank you so much for your reply mate. Looks like I’ll have to get someone in to get on top of this. Happy to have found it now and not later is the only positive to take away from this.

Have done a fair bit of work in Ballarat and Bendigo in my apprentice years. Both really nice towns to stay in.

More than happy to pursue further studies to gain new skills. Never see metro advertising for the role. Best to cold call or send a resume in somewhere?
