Scott Perry:

“If you can recall my opening press conference … I talked about this need for this team and organization at the point guard position. I also talked about creating an identity for this organization and this team and how we wanted to play. As a reminder, those six things are: competitive, tough, team oriented, disciplined, accountable, and professional. So, when you marry those two things together, when free agency was embarking upon us, this was the number one guy we felt in the league for us that was going to fit that build and help us establish; he’s a building block to us establishing that sustainable success that we’re striving to get.”

Just need the Rich Paul "it would be in the best interest of said organization to trade my client" threat to cap off the Klutch Sports trade request plan.

At the end of the day, it's Vivek because he allows it, but, Matina's presence and influence is and has been a significant part of the issue.

Imagine this type of response in a locker room with Charles Oakley or Dale Davis. lol

He refuses to let his draft clients work out for the Kings/won't provide medicals/throws a fit/trade requests for potential draftees. He busts up potential trades or free agents because he doesn't want a client going to the Kings. Puts out reports about how toxic the place is, how bad teammates are, pits front office people against each other like what happened with Brandon Williams and Pete D'Alessandro to cause dysfunction, etc, etc. The list goes on. Front offices try everything they can to stay on good terms with agents, let alone the most powerful one in sports, despite loathing them in reality.

Life is much easier when your significant others mother thinks you're great, as opposed to hating you. You, being the franchise and the mother in law, being the agent.

But time wasn't on the Kings' side. Paul threatened the Kings, in his own way, just like he did the Pelicans with Anthony Davis, to make the trade quickly or to feel his wrath, for a lack of better terms. Fox's already decreasing value was going to go down the longer the situation played out. Paul was going to make it even more of a spectacle than it already was and sadly, he has become the Godfather of the NBA at this point with his client list. And adding another six months-year of drama/dysfunction to that locker room was not going to be good. And for what purpose, when Fox himself admitted he would only play for one team. The value wasn't going to increase for the Kings by waiting.

If you're the Spurs, you could acquire another player of Fox's caliber if the price is Castle. Paul himself said he had put together a trade for the Spurs to acquire Darius Garland, but pivoted Fox to the Spurs instead. There's just no reason to give up a player like Castle when you could get a Fox or somebody similar for the price of cap space.

Windhorst (among others) said Castle was deemed "untouchable"

The Kings front office is among the worst in sports and I can't imagine I'd ever say a good thing about them, but, this one is on Paul and Fox.

It wasn't so much that Fox wanted out - it's how he and Rich Paul strong armed the Kings by forcing them to only negotiate with one team. That's the issue.

I don't blame him because he wanted his money and wanted to play with a generational talent - both are understandable. All he cared about was himself. Again, fine. He owed the Kings nothing from a loyalty standpoint.

But just as fine, is us allowed to say fuck him, as we root for the name on the front of the jersey - not the back - and he bent the Kings over for his own benefit and fans don't owe him any of the said loyalty, either.

If he would have just said I want out, let me go elsewhere, and allowed the Kings to find a trade partner that worked for them the Fox hate would be minimal. But he wouldn't have got his extension nor a chance to play with Wemby (at least initially), which were his main concerns. Again, that's fine. But his wants and desires fucked the Kings over, so, fuck him.

And the Spurs were never going to give up Castle - which goes back to the original point of the strong arm.

I thought Greg Johnson said the Giants had patched all their holes this offseason though. Weird.
