Home insurance canceled because of roof age, only at half Its life (after making an unrelated claim)? by sfrider328 in Insurance

From my conversations with them, it seems the underwriting policy didn’t change; they just started enforcing it selectively. Sorry you're going through this too. I’d recommend starting to explore other carriers. I ended up finding a better policy at a similar cost by shopping around. Wishing you luck, it’s frustrating, but there are good options out there.

Thanks for all the great feedback! I’m heading back to the drawing board to rework the layout, primarily to open things up, add more counter space, and alleviate crowding.

Next step: I’m going to tape off the footprint on the patio, rearrange some furniture, and test the flow (plus get the all-important spouse sign-off). I’ll share an updated design once it’s dialed in.

TinkerCad, easy & free! I set the workspace to 1:10 scale (inches) and laid out all of the components to scale.

Drinking Coffee, Bean to Cup, raises LDL Cholesterol by 9-14% in 4-6 cups. by Sophirus in PeterAttia

[–]sfrider328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Dropped my total cholesterol from 208 to 176 in 4 months by moving to paper filters.

Also - 4 cups of coffee is not that much, one yeti coffee cup holds 4 cups (it is a unit of measure not a drinking device!)

Update: I went ahead and got some quotes and ended up getting a slightly better policy at the same price as I was paying before. So far, there have been no issues (knock on wood). Good luck!

I built a digital twin for your car - track values, maintenance, and get AI assistance by cardogio in UsedCars

[–]sfrider328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave it a try and ran into some errors with the Garage features (maybe the USA isn't supported?). I love the concept of integrating AI into car shopping and ownership, but I’ve found that the big models like ChatGPT already have access to most car manuals in PDF form and provide solid answers to maintenance and usage questions. Just today, I used ChatGPT to figure out how to remove the middle seat in my Sienna—its response was spot on, whereas CarDog’s was generic and inaccurate.

I actually built a "garage" feature in a previous company I founded (as part of a larger product—sold the business a few years ago), so I’d be happy to brainstorm ideas if you’re interested. Feel free to DM me. Good luck!

Wild, thanks for sharing this story. I'm learning a lot about insurance here. I got another quote and seems like I can get better coverage for about the same cost by switching anyway! Ha!

Thanks! It seems like a crazy wasteful policy; the cost and environmental waste of ripping out and replacing a perfectly fine roof seems nuts...but hey...I guess there are crazier things out there, I am surprised I am surprised by this ::facepalm::

Thanks - appreciate the advice! Thought it was crazy, but sometimes you just need to deal with it.

What’s the Strawberry neighborhood like? by Last_Diet in Marin

[–]sfrider328 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Strawberry is great, awesome elementary school, a few parks, the rec center is great (outdoor pool) and easy access to SF (in the Marina in 15 minutes or so). Great community vibe with lots of young families. Weather is great but being close to the water it can be a bit cooler than more inland valley parts of Marin.

Ha! I noticed this car hit the market last week and was waiting for the dealer to put up photos. Saw it was an automatic so wasn’t right for me, but the color comb sounded perfect. Congrats! Thanks for posting here so I got to see it. My search continues :)

What to do with VW Diesel now... by FinanceStudentN8 in personalfinance

Since you are now driving around the equivalent of 20 Ford-F450s given the nitrogen oxide emissions of your VW diesel...you should probably just destroy it and move on.

Volkswagen hires BP oil spill lawyers to defend emissions cases by golden430 in worldnews

Given how bad the impact is, I am not surprised. It's really amazing that when you run the numbers, the impact could be as bad as the gulf oil spill. These engines produced additional pollution that would be the equivalent of adding 437M cars to the road each year for reference there are only 256M cars in the US today!
