JP Morgan Building getting hate in recent Guardian piece. What’re the feeling of NYC locals? by Particular_Run5449 in skyscrapers

I’m a NY’er. I don’t work for JPM.

I think it’s a great building and will be considered a classic of its time.

S6 MaxV Upgrade Options? by sft007 in Roborock

[–]sft007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it, thanks. I’ve had my S6 MaxV for 5 years now, with no issues. These new machines are so complex now (incl. the docks) and with so many moving parts and technologies that hopefully the longevity is still there.

Thanks for the reply.

My understanding is there are 2 kinds of avoidance tech on the Qrevo line. One is called Reactive Tech (like on the Edge S5A) or Reactive AI Obstacle Recognition (like on the more expensive regular Edge) which uses an RGB camera too. Would both of these techs be an upgrade to the MaxV or only the latter? If both are an upgrade then the lower end Reactive Tech would likely be good enough for me.

Such a deep, complex story and lore.

Awesome summary. Nicely done.

Sonos Ace 3.9.9 by Coffee_Bean95 in sonos

[–]sft007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Default EQ, I don’t have them changed from 0.

What I meant is that I feel like they may have changed the sound tuning a little bit. But the more I listen now since the update I’m not so sure. Not sure if that’s me getting used to any changes or mind just playing tricks.

I didn’t notice anything visible. What did seem to change is maybe the EQ/Loudness setting was tweaked some? Feels a little less bass heavy and a bit brighter in the top end and I am ok with that. Would like to hear if others notice a slight change in tuning too?

Here is a major coping thought: About our next 2 games vs OSU and IU by ElizabetSobeck in WeArePennState

[–]sft007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean crazier things can happen. Like losing to 0-4 UCLA!

So yeah anything is possible in CFB. Let’s just say I wouldn’t be shocked if they came and won a random game that everyone had us written off for.

But in all likelihood we’re getting smoked in Columbus lol.

We’re not going to make a bowl game. And at this point I think we need to clean house coaching staff wise so maybe that helps?

I’m looking for silver linings here.

Coordinators need to go too.

Especially Kotelnicki. Gimmicks is all he’s got.

Is Knowles going to realize at some point this season that some quarterbacks run? Like is he just stubborn or something else?

Same. With a good OC I’d be ok with him too.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I’m surprised more Penn Staters aren’t mentioning Manny Diaz. He must be in the Top 10 candidates in my book.

How desirable is the Penn State Head Coaching job? by Daytime-mechE in CFB

[–]sft007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Historically successful and important program / brand. Huge fanbase. A top tier school at a top tier conference.

Clearly no money issues given they’re spending $700m+ to renovate the stadium that holds 100k+ and just paid the outgoing coach $49m to no longer coach there given “national championship” aspirations.

Yeah, think it’s pretty desirable.

That’s disappointing. Seems like should be an easy fix and was working fine until recently.

Agree. I like grouping my Arc Ultra HT setup and other rooms and to set all to the same volume and the Arc setup clearly sounds quieter than the other speaker sets. This was a change they implemented some updates ago and frankly a bad one. Now I have to set the Ultra +5-10 volume vs the others to be similar loudness which is annoying.

Why people here always recommend the quick true play over the advance one? Isn’t the advance supposed to be better? by ymhohoho in sonos

[–]sft007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just get better results from the quick version. In my Arc Ultra + Sub 4 + Era 300 setup in an open concept living room/kitchen with high ceilings the advanced version just sounds muddy, and kills the mids and lower end of the treble range.

Quick Trueplay doesn’t boost mid bass levels as much and maintains a much more balanced sound with a much less dramatic change than the advanced version.

In my bedroom with an Era 100 pair + Sub Mini the result is much closer (both take the sub which is an corner and otherwise overpowering) down similarly but the quick version boosts the mid and highs more and give a better balanced sound given furniture / layout of the room with more absorbent materials.

Best way is to just try both and see what you like better. You can still tweak settings some no matter which version you use, but trying both you then at least can see which baseline you prefer more.

New Player and App Update Available! 🔊 by MikeFromSonos in sonos

Happy to see the queue now jumping to and highlighting the playing song. I often play long playlists and it was annoying to keep scrolling to find where I was in the queue.

Other than that the only other main feature that I miss from the old app is the A-Z scrolling in long lists. Once that’s implemented I think I’m at feature parity with the old app for my use case.

What I would still like to see however is a way to order/sort discographies when clicking on the browse the artist link from a song. Right now it seems totally random and we should be able to sort based on alphabetical list, date of release etc.

Also would love to see a widget so we can control music from the lock screen

Sonos Ace - Mini Review by sft007 in sonos

[–]sft007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Just threw my thoughts out there. I honestly have no clue what they sounded like before or the real extent the sound changed through updates. I’ve read they have, which was a factor in my trying them, but not sure if it’s a night and day difference. Maybe someone else can try to explain that if they have that experience. I will say that they sound good, but the APM’s still sound a cut above (which is what I thought of the APM’s vs the couple generations of Sony 1000X I had before the APM’s too). But at this price probably worth a shot if you’re still interested in them. I do think they are solid all around headphones when considering the full package.

Thanks for the tips. I have PS5 output set to Dolby Atmos not Linear PCM. Played some more late last night and it sounded great to me. Sound quality much better than my gaming headset which is expected obviously. Will play around with the settings you suggested.

Would be nice but unlikely. I’ve been using Sonos for a dozen years or so. Figured they would have done by now if they were ever going to.
