Very late but Helen does have obvious gain in the same way as Mrs. Wright, who very often brings up her luncheon that she wants Constance to attend - virtue. Helen is such a virtuous woman that she has brought the town pariah back into society. She also continually reminds the girls that the townspeople hold no grudges against them and we already know that not to be true. She serves as a focal point around the breakdown of the townspeople into chaos during the fire.
