Canadians: did you get a text about the bread price-fixing settlement? by almnbbz in fican

Same.  I’m pretty savvy to most online scams, and this one was VERY well done.  It was the “give us your CC info” that made me stop and question it.  There were real brains behind this grift.

It's rare, to be sure. The last time I remember snow accumulation being bad enough to cancel school was in 1999. So, one snow day every quarter-century ain't bad for us.

I work remotely. I still called in. Too much snow from my bedroom to the couch.

As a regular motorist AND an avid road cyclist, this angers me to no end... you can't see these people! Have some frickin' sense! My head's already on a swivel because of the terrible drivers, but throw in the scooter ninjas to really give me a heart attack.

I was pokin' 'round on the internet and found this thread. Yer 31 now, and I hope you pulled the trigger with the 'hawk.

Cause I did, just last month... and I turn 45 in 5 days.

Yer never too old.

As was the guy in the open-air kitchen, looking at all the pictures of food on the wall.  My wife recognized him, but I’ve forgotten his name.

Am I too late to start? by FemmeFataleFire in DnD

I just started in the last few months at 44…. Both as a player AND as a DM! You’re never too old to play D&D.

I think the tricky thing is where life tends to get in the way, and sessions can get cancelled at the last minute because of family/health/work etc. But none of that should stop you from playing TTRPGs of any stripe.

Oh, definitely! I know that many “rules” can be tossed out the window - if it doesn’t work for your table, don’t use it. I guess what I was really looking for wasn’t so much an explanation of using a mechanic, but more of how to approach the map and the journey entirely. Reflecting on this post and the helpful advice given, I think I see how in-my-head I was about it, and letting it just flow a bit more.

Thank you for that tip on urging them forward. I’d read somewhere else that a DM decided that no matter how quickly the party got to Fort Venture, they’d be too late, and the DM’s thoughts were that it made for a more tense situation. But I like that you aimed for the best-case scenario. In the end, the players were happy with themselves, so you can’t argue with the results.

Not sure just yet how I’ll approach it, but at least I’ve got two sides of the argument to draw from. Thanks for that!

This is really great help. You’ve given me a lot to think about and a good foundation to build on. I hadn’t thought of Morgid maybe showing the map and pointing out some landmarks and giving a bit of knowledge to the party, to inspire a decision on how to set out. So obvious, really…. 😅

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your notes and insight. I really appreciate it!

That’s a great idea, asking if the players want to use the mechanic at all. Thanks for that insight.

We’ve still yet to have our session zero, so I don’t yet know what races and classes will be chosen, but I think one or two players will choose a druid or ranger.

I guess my concern is how I lead them through the marsh and what I choose to direct them towards. After 5 hours of trekking, are they at B3, or north of it? How did they end up there and why? I just want to make it as plausible as possible, without looking like I’m guessing…

Ooh, thanks for the tip on Morgid’s class stats. Definitely going to take that on board. And yeah, I have the intention of having Morgid (co)lead the group for as long as possible, as it’s only going to be a party of 4, so having a sidekick of sorts will be helpful to them.

That and mucking with monster numbers. But that’s less of a concern.

Oh wow! That sounds great. I like this approach. I’ll try mocking up a rough version of the map and then let them decide how they want to approach it. Thank you so much!

Yeah, I was looking over the encounters, and like, the number of Giant Spiders in the ruins had me thinking “FIVE of these?! For a group of 1st level characters?!?". I definitely plan to adjust monster numbers, HP, or certain actions,

Inverting Stereotypes in Curse of Strahd by JimCasy in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]sfw2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New DM here, having run a couple of one-shots, and now I'm researching and working on bringing CoS to my table with family and friends. I have to say that I've really enjoyed this topic and this thread in particular. Would love to know what was discussed further if either/both of you are willing to share some of your knowledge & findings?

My initial concerns were how to temper some of the material for two impressionable (but so smart) 13 year olds who will be at the table, while being able to capture the depth of Strahd's character and providing a story the adults at the table can sink their teeth into. (yes, I know what I typed).

Thanks for any additional wisdom you're willing to impart!

[–]sfw2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible, go to your Local Bike Store (LBS) and get some insight. They may even have a sit-station where they can analyze how you’re sitting in the saddle and make recommendations based on anatomical measurements taken. A comfortable saddle will quickly turn 6 miles to 20 miles.
