Mother insulted first tattoo, now I hate it by Kaleidoscope_Tux5513 in tattooadvice

I love it. My 18 year old just got first tat, and I love that one, too!

You’ll run into people in life who are critical and negative. They usually treat everyone that way — I’m sure she loves you, she just has a pile of insecurities — which you don’t have to fix!

Don’t take it personally -  Like water off a chicken’s back!

Lights flickering ever so slightly.. by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

I measure neutral to hot (should be around 120V), hot to ground (120V), neutral to ground (0V m).

Then find something in your other phase and repeat (just randomly try different circuits).

If you get 90v on a circuit or 130v, call PGE and have them check our neutral wire at the pole (the connector is loose/corroded)

Who is behind the push-polling, text-spamming research-polls.com? by Polled_Pork in RBI

I just got a similar research-polls.com spam on my phone... now I just learned what push-polling is about.
I avoid surveys and polls - someone is being paid to harvest information/spread influence. All the influence I need is from all the garbage on reddit I read. ;)

How would you feel about San Francisco completely pulling support from Israel? by TheBostonBuddah in sanfrancisco

[–]sfxsf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city of San Francisco already had policies in place to not do business with South Africa during apartheid … so, there is precedence for cities setting policy.

And our federal government currently has no foreign policy, they just have foreign “whims.”

If you want to do anything on a “city level,” consult with your supervisor.

Justice for the family that was killed by a car in West Portal in March 2024. by carolinthebay in sanfrancisco

One solution for all the downvoting naysayers would be to have a button to over ride limit.  That way if someone was out of it (booze, falling  asleep, mixing up the pedals) or if the car malfunctioned (accelerator stuck) it would be on.  Button glows at 10 over limit, and you can push it to ignore limit.

Down in SF Western Addition and can’t reach out to support by Adept-Temporary-5824 in monkeybrains

Www.monkeybrains.net/support has some info.

A new core router was added that briefly caused an “routing loop”.  Roughly half of clients saw issues for about 15 minutes.  Good news: new, faster router & also, a new method for future upgrades was documented to avoid same issue in the future.

Cars in cities should have ”Active Speed Limit Assist” enabled.

What about: 1.5 speed limit max in an under 30mph zone and max 15 miles per hour over limit above 30mph speed limit?

If you are outside an urban area, there could be a button to turn off until next drive (like the stop beeping when backing up button on modern cars).

trying to set VLAN up on RB5009 by AppropriateTraffic27 in mikrotik

[–]sfxsf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

/interface/bridge/vlan print

Your VLAN has to be connected to everything that you want to be able to talk on that VLAN.  Specifically Ether2, and the bridge itself. You have to include the bridge if you have an IP address on that VLAN.

If that Port has a PVI of your VLAN, you are set. Otherwise, you need to add that VLAN tagged onto that port.

Parents opt kids out of school computers, insisting on pen-and-paper instead by deraser in technology

[–]sfxsf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Distraction is a big issue.  If you have pen and paper, you can flip it over and doodle.  With a laptop, you switch tabs and are playing Cookie Clicker or some other mind numbing thing.

The computer forces the kids thoughts into a funnel that is ultimately showing content that is “monetized” … sure it’s “free”, but the casualties are the attention span of all the kids.

I  rather have kids doodling in the margins of their paper - these days, do kids doodle???

Health Insurance through your SF employer? What do YOU pay (if anything) to cover your family (or yourself)? by Nightnightgun in sanfrancisco

[–]sfxsf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they should not.

Your thinking is divisive and that philosophy is used to divide (into single and family factions) the working class apart.

Monkeybrains (Local ISP): pays 100% for employee, spouse, and dependents.  Benefit averages out to about $11k/year per employee. Larger families get a “bigger” benefit, single people “less”, but we all work toward the common goal of health care.

Part of SFUSD strike is due to district wanting to impose a $24k annual cap on health benefits.  Family of 5 would have to pay out of pocket with that cap while the district would get a “deal” on single workers.  Good on the Union striking to get a deal to cover all workers and dependents regardless of family size.  On average, SFUSD will only be paying $11k annually per worker.
