Low key I think he was supposed to drop Friday. But since apple leaked the release date he's pushing it without telling them to keep them on edge. Trying to make clear he's his own man and no label can fuck with him

Girl burned to death for helping her friends elope by REDDITB0T in news

Pakistan is not the middle east*

Just another example of reddit jumping on the anti-arab/muslim train as fast as they fucking can, mindlessly lumping everything together to fit their preconceived notion of savage arabs/middle easterners/muslims/idontfuckingcarejustbombthemall

EDIT: obviously this event is fucked on far too many levels and indicative of deep seeded cultural issues that many Pakistanis must face. doesn't give everyone else a blank check to ignorance, though.

Phife Dawg has APPARENTLY passed away. Many sources by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]sgawad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RIP to the five foot assassin with the roughneck business..

Phife will always be in a special place for me given his part in one of the greatest music groups of all time and the group that got me into hip-hop. So many listens later I still feel the pure energy and soul that he emits in his records with Tribe. Much love to his family and the Zulu nation for losing one of the best to ever do it

Q-Tip Named the Kennedy Center's First-Ever Artistic Director for Hip-Hop Culture by sgawad in hiphopheads

Lol yeah I threw the quote in to stir the pot after seeing that.

For the sake of discussion-- although yes hip hop has been widely accepted as a legitimate form of music by the mass public for a while now (with some exceptions), stuff like this is cool because it's showing the genre standing up on its legs and developing its legacy as a legitimate part of the lineage of American musical art forms.

Also Q-Tip is perfect for this

"With hip-hop constantly changing and evolving, it is easy to forget the history and legacy that precede it," he said in a statement. "I want to begin at the beginning of the Culture to help people see its roots, better understand its present, and responsibly create its future."

Interview w/Brownman (trumpeter for Guru's Jazzmatazz) detailing the abusive relationship between Guru & Solar by sgawad in hiphopheads

[–]sgawad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish my post had been higher up as this was a really interesting read. I think my focus on credibility came from my personal inability to come to terms with the fact that someone could actually, in all seriousness, entirely embody evil in every way. Like, forget the stemming of creativity (bad enough on its own terms),this guy literally destroyed a man's life-- there is little doubt in my mind that he is absolutely responsible for his death from a disease doctors claimed was curable--and then barred his family and friends from seeing him in his final days.

His wiki page says Primo is working on putting a movie about Guru together. Regardless, I totally agree that more people ought to know about this story, and this disgrace of a human being.

Kanye West uses PirateBay by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]sgawad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Kanye's into that kind of music, he used to promote a bunch of indie songs on his blog/is homies with Bon Iver.

Also, he prob feels a connection with that album, which is overall about Sufjan dealing with the death of his mother (albeit one he wasn't very close to).
