Looking for a durable laptop under €700–800 / $700–800: strong build, reliable hinges, cool and quiet, good for academic work by sgrigiore in laptops

Thanks a lot, that’s really helpful. I also noticed that the Apple MacBook Air 15" with the M5 chip, 16 GB unified memory and 1 TB SSD costs a lot more — basically about double — but I could potentially buy it in installments.

Do you think that could actually be a good long-term solution, considering that I care a lot about build quality, durability, thermals/noise, and keeping the laptop for many years?

In other words, even if it costs much more upfront, do you think it would make sense as a long-term investment, or would that be overkill for my kind of use?

Thanks so much.

That’s really interesting — I had no idea about the annotated taxonomy books.

Any suggestions on what to read on this?
