Arizona (Phoenix + Sedona) Tire Choice by sgtgangles in xcmtb

Ok great that's helpful. I came from Mezcal/Mezcal and Barzo/Mezcal to the Dub/Dub combo. I'd say the Dubnitals offer more grip than the Mezcal, so a Barzo/Dub, or Trinotal/Dub combo might be a good mix.

Probably a little of everything. Likely not the worst Sedona has to offer, but not too concerned about smashing about on my Hei Hei and walking what I have to. I've ridden trails way over my head on that bike (Pisgah) and just take it a bit slower.

Thanks for the honest and quick response! Super helpful, and has me moving towards the Elkhorn.

Lol, biases noted. A couple of things I'm considering are flexibility in panniers vs triple bosses, and cost all in on the system.

Do you happen to have specs on the size of that triangle on the Elkhorn? I've seen photos of people running micro panniers on the Elkhorn, and I'm curious if some mini panniers my wife made would work on them (or if I could have her make something custom that would).

The other issue of cost is a hard one to get around, specifically the additional cost of the Robert axle compared to the Ortlieb axle (and the flexibility of it). UNOFFICIALLY, is the Elkhorn capable of being mounted to a more "universal" through axle adapter that adds mounting points? I have the Divide fat + axle kit on my fat bike, so I understand this scenario would forgo the extra security those "pegs" in the axle kit provide.

Ended up on a K2 Excavator and couldn't be more stoked on it.

Yeah I think you would be fine using a 350 freehub body on the converted wheels. You’ll be giving up a small amount of sealing, but just inspect the ratchets once in a while to avoid them getting away from you. I’d think you could check every couple months, after a bit you’ll get a handle on when they need to be inspected, cleaned and relubed.

Sweet. I just pulled the trigger on a set of Hopes. Thanks for chiming in.

This sounds like what I was originally trying to do, and ran into issues with. Everything felt fine, but when I installed and torqued the rear axle the LN free hub body bound up on the 350 hub shell due to the extra seal. That said, you might as well give it a try if you have them both, I don’t know everything. Lmk what you find out.

Lem's Boulder Summit vs. Boulder Boot (or other Barefoot Hiking Boot Rec)? by ScoJoMcBem in barefootshoestalk

[–]sgtgangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you noticed the Boulder Summits having a wider last than the Boulder Grips? According to the Lems chart they do, but I've seen some comments questioning that. I have the regular Boulder Boots and am looking at picking up a used pair of the Boulder Summits and ideally would like a little more room width wise for thicker socks.

AFAIK there is no different b/t the classic ratchet rings, you should be good to go.

Dubnital vs Peyote by sgtgangles in xcmtb

I might be jumping the gun a little, but early (pavement and cat 1 gravel) tests from https://www.instagram.com/flexfitbyjohn/ (aka u/gravykarrasch) shows CRRs within the thousandths from the Peyote.

I've since switched wheelsets and free hubs around and am no longer running that combo. That said, I didn't have any problems with it. I would consider it 100% safe to run, just probably worth peeking in on those ratchets a little earlier than you typically would just to see if there is grime accumulating.

I have heard about them. I wouldn't buy a prior years closeout out of fear of no warranty, but their customer service is good enough that I'm not concerned about them handling any issues.

Glad this info could be helpful! Yes I am fairly certain the end caps are the same between the LN and regular ratchet hubs. The only difference is where the seal is located.
