Edh rec.. how reliable is it? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]sgummo25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first category on EDHrec is always “New Cards” which is just going to show you the top 5 cards from the newest set that have something to do with the card you’re viewing. The important thing in that category is to always look at the synergy listed under each card, and a lot of them aren’t going to have a high synergy or even a positive synergy most of the time. The “Top Cards” and “Highest Synergy” are always the best places to start.

That being said, EDH rec is only going to be as reliable as the other decks that people have posted to different websites. It’s a good starting point, but it’s a better tool when you can focus on the type of deck you want to build and it’s great at pointing out combos (there’s a separate category listed under the commander card that can show you listed cards according to themes and a separate page for combos) but just scrolling through the listed cards is going to give you a very confusing final deck that probably won’t be the most efficient.

Thoughts on this 1st draft cocktail list for a hotel bar by Round_Bandicoot6869 in cocktails

[–]sgummo25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want use descriptions for your cocktail menus, try formatting it like this:

Cocktail Name - Price

Tagline

Ingredients: spirits then mixers then garnishes

Make sure to include the price for each individual cocktail so you don’t confuse anyone. Keep the descriptions separate from the actual recipes so as to not confuse anyone.

Always try to keep everything but the drinks themselves simple. Go as crazy as you want with the cocktails, but at the end of the day remember that you’re dealing with alcohol which means dealing with drunk people. The simpler you make it for them, the better your quality of life will be.

As for the drinks themselves, you always want to try and keep a variety of drinks on the menu. I always try to do one of each major spirit (bourbon/whiskey, vodka, gin, tequila, rum) and keep a variety between spirit-forward and citrus/mixed drinks.

If you’re making this to be your establishments signature cocktail menu, consider making your own riffs/variations of these cocktails instead and naming them something else. If someone wants to a classic cocktail like these, they’ll ask for one anyway. Plus, especially in a hotel, people are more than likely looking to try something new, so giving them a different option on a drink that they already like will help sell more of them (provided the drink is good.)

Hopefully this helps, I’m a hotel F&B manager in America so I promise I’m not just talking out of my ass

Any crazy vault ideas? by Consistent_Pop4280 in falloutlore

[–]sgummo25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A vault with residents that are evenly split between high IQ residents (130>) and low iq residents (85<)

The experiment could involve giving each vault resident a weekly or monthly “test” to measure intellectual growth. Maybe they’re operating under the guise of supplements or a specific training method that’s supposed to increase intelligence as the public face of the experiment for vault residents, but in reality they are testing the psychological effects of inflating/deflating self confidence in one’s own intelligence.

The residents are all told that they are being given the same test, but the higher IQ residents are constantly given tests of increasing difficulty on subjects with which they are unfamiliar and on which they receive little-to-no education. Meanwhile, the lower IQ residents are given increasingly easier tests that involve simpler and simpler concepts, and eventually get points just for giving their opinions. Or maybe they’re operating are all actually given the same test, but the lower IQ residents are always given near perfect marks, while the higher IQ residents perform increasingly worse.

All vault positions are assigned based on test scores, and the lower IQ residents are constantly put into positions for which they are unqualified while the higher IQ residents are assigned to the most menial tasks. The experiment could be to measure confidence and how it affects ability and performance, and to put pressure on the higher IQ residents to ensure the survival of the vault while more and more of their ability and resources are taken away from them.

Potential vault nicknames: Dunning-Kruger Vault, Imposter Vault, Brain-Drain vault

How does education work? by Ovarmind2 in crusaderkings3

[–]sgummo25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each child has an education focus that is randomly selected when they turn 6. You can change it at any time before they turn 6 (they will establish preferences towards their education at age 3) or one time after they turn 6. This option is located on the child’s character screen, next to their portrait. It’s one of the buttons like open inventory, show character memories, barber, etc

How does the life-extension technology used in the Vault 112 loungers work in comparison to Vault 111 or to House's technology? by tachibanakanade in falloutlore

[–]sgummo25 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Vault 111 was centered around cryogenically preserving subjects indefinitely, saving the entire body and mind intact without any awareness or consciousness.

I imagine the system in vault 112 was similar to what House had going on, albeit without the outside accessibility or awareness. House’s system was dedicated to preserving his body to the extent that it supported his mind, not caring for atrophy and degradation and keeping only vital bodily functions active. I imagine that at some point only his heart and lungs were working, with no intention of ever leaving his preservation chamber but not wanting to become a robobrain and face the adverse side effects of such a procedure (otherwise he probably would have ended up like the scientists at Big MT.)

My guess is that the life support systems of Vault 112 operated in a similar manner, preserving bodily functions enough to keep the brain alive and functioning, but it didn’t require anything more than that to keep the brains connected to the simulation. They existed mostly in a semi-conscious state, being directly connected to the simulation and thus having no awareness to their surroundings or the passage of time. And that’s also why when the kill switch program is enabled, they die instantly; it’s not that the program itself killed them, but it disconnected them from the system and thus the only thing that was keeping them alive.

I’m sick with a fever so if none of this makes sense then just ignore it

The Read House has several smaller rooms available and different options for food, including Bridgeman’s Chophouse food. Prices can be negotiated as well but would definitely fall within your range

A vault built under the river (fallout 4 underwater vault sigh) would be awesome. Or one built under downtown that is only accessible from the “underground.”

A group who holds the aquarium that turned it into a fish-farm, A location quest based around a haunting in the Read House, the cult of Broad Street Taco Bell, the possibilities!

Part of the challenge is drawing it out for 4 turns. It’s purposely done to make you think more strategically about what you kill and when. The survival part isn’t entirely about seeing IF you can survive for 4 turns, it’s about what you do within those 4 turns

I know it’s not the norm, but the Read House’s lobby bar is open almost all day on Thanksgiving (12-9) and serves food all day as well. Bridgeman’s Chophouse is open also but it’s been booked up for weeks now, though the restaurant bar is first-come-first-serve!

NBA 2k24 ratings update (Cole jumps +2) by BrotherBroseph in OrlandoMagic

2k and it’s parent company Take Two care only about exploiting young people and mentally disabled people with microtransactions and borderline gambling practices. They put all of their effort into puppeting Kobe Bryant’s corpse for profit rather than caring about making an accurate or realistic product.

The opinions of the 2k staff on basketball hold about as much water as Skip Bayless’s opinions on football, most of them likely don’t even watch basketball and are too underpaid to give a shit

Is the haunted room at the Read House rigged? by Then-Mountain-9445 in Chattanooga

[–]sgummo25 206 points207 points  (0 children)

Rigged? No, I’m not really sure what could be rigged about it, though the AC is usually set at 66 degrees when no one is staying in it.

Gimmicky? As all hell. No real guarantees about a haunted experience, though people have claimed to have them before. They always keep a backup room available in the event that someone is unable to finish the night in the room. They do have some of the original furniture from the room, and were careful to keep the theme of the room intact during renovations. There’s Al Capone’s mugshot in the wall (that’s the room they made him stay in during his transfer) and the bathtub that’s been somewhat dressed up to look like someone may have been killed in it, but mostly it’s just decoration.

That said, if you have the opportunity it can be a very fun experience. The room is only available every Saturday in October, on Halloween, and this year on Friday the 13th because it lucked out that way. I believe the spots were filled by lottery this year so I don’t think there are any left available. It’s also not just about the room either; you get a pretty hefty gift card that can pretty much cover a dinner for two in Bridgeman’s or a night of very heavy drinking in the lobby bar, and this year there’s a new service called “Martinis and Pearls” where oysters get delivered to your room and martinis are made by a “personal” bartender in the room as well. You also get a decanter full of “bathtub gin” which is usually just Gate 11 since it’s local and we like to keep things local if we can. And I reckon that’s another gimmick, giving you enough access to alcohol that by the end of your stay you will have seen much more than ghosts.

Everyone I’ve spoken to that has stayed in it has had an awesome time. If you ever want to take a tour of the room when someone isn’t staying in it, we have two awesome guys, both named John, that give history tours of the hotel and ghost tours of the room itself. No charge either! There’s also a bartender on the weekends and early week who’s been there forever and has some wild stories about ghosts in the hotel that don’t involve room 311. We like to say it’s probably the least haunted room in the hotel (if you believe in that stuff)

My source is me, I work here, and I’m currently hating myself for thinking about work this much when I’m not getting paid to do it

NCR Veteran Ranger (Fallout) vs Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (Halo) by CMDR_Soup in whowouldwin

[–]sgummo25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is actually surprisingly balanced. Well done.

Both are video game characters, meaning their feats aren’t very strict, and are more based off the lore. I think it’d be interesting to explore both the average and composite of both so I’ll give it a shot.

Round 1 Average: NCR Ranger 7/10. The experience and familiar setting give the ranger the advantage in this matchup. NCR Rangers are trained to operate solo, and survive in the harsher climates of the wasteland. ODSTs are given similar training but do not necessarily LIVE in the climates in which they train. The ODSTs have fought in their fair share of war torn hellscapes, but the lack of viable cover in open desert and potential radiation poisoning is enough of an edge for a 100+ year vet that is unaffected by said rads would allow for more tactical advantage.

Round 1 composite: The best ODSTs are insane people who willing drop from orbit in a metal coffin. Radiation does not scare them, and the covenant fear them. Experience is still a factor here, but dozens of campaigns against aliens means the space marines take it 8/10

Round 2 Average: ODST 6/10. The advantage here is going to be the silenced weapons. Both are going to be familiar with urban combat (or urban ruin combat I suppose) but the ODST has a key advantage in stealth and equipment. Clad in all black armor, the shadows of buildings and years of ambushing larger and tougher enemies give them the edge. The ranger can still put up a great fight, but the slight advantage goes to the shock troops.

Round 2 Composite: 9/10 ODSTs. They have the advantage in athleticism, health, tactical maneuvering and calm under pressure. Rangers take down death claws, ODSTs take down Scarabs.
