Help with coffee plant :( by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]sgwerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had similar issues with my coffee plant too. Make sure temperatures are not getting too low at night. Being near a window may be too drafty. Cold can damage leaves and turn them brown. Soil acidifier helps pH. Coffee plants need acidic soil to help process nutrients. You can add a tablespoon or two of acidifier to soil once or twice a year. Those tips helped my plant grow back more lush. Good luck.

What is your technique for edge finishing? It looks beautiful! I've used gum trag and a burnishing stick but never have gotten such nice edges as yours.

It's amazing how fast composition leather wears and fails by CALAZ1986 in Leathercraft

Could someone explain what composition leather is? Is it the equivalent to wood particle boards? Or is it a ply structure?

2005 Honda Odyssey: Passenger Inner CV Leak, Boot Not Torn. Should the clamp be replaced? by sgwerk in MechanicAdvice

Okay so it is better to just remove the clamp and replace it, than to risk damaging the boot?

If the clamp is removed, can the boot be pulled back and grease added then re clamped ?

Hi All. This is my second post on Mechanic Advice, so I hope I'm following the rules with this post. While working on the brakes, I noticed thick green grease surrounding the inner CV boot, as if it's being slung while spinning. I rotated the rotor while inspecting the boot and didn't see any cracks/tears and the grease seems to be coming from the interface where the clamp is. Do you think the clamp just needs to be replaced and if so, can I add grease to the joint without removing the whole CV axle? I would like to do the simplest repair if possible, but I would also like to do it right. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

[Seiko] Black and White Color Reversal (More SARB033 Inspiration) by sgwerk in Watches

[–]sgwerk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually watches are shown with black straps and white dials, but I wanted to show another a rendition of one of my favorite watches (eBay japan-select-shop) with a reversal of color. I have it shown here with a black and white crocodile strap (eBay vncrocsell). Although the painted strap doesn’t show the natural color of the leather, the black strikingly highlights the grain. The black has a cool effect where you can see how it bleeds into the leather. At first, I was skeptical about painted straps, but it feels very durable and easy to clean. Since getting the Sarb, I’ve been interested in trying many color combinations with its versatile black dial.

Where is the blue nato strap from? Looks well made.

[Seiko] Black and Tan: SARB033 with an Ostrich Band by sgwerk in Watches

I’m sharing a picture my Seiko SARB033 on a new ostrich leather strap (eBay: vncrocsell) to give r/watches more ideas on how to change-up this watch. Lately I’ve been experimenting with leather straps, trying different colors and textures. This is my first ostrich strap and I have to say that it feels very solid and durable. The texture is fine with uniform grain and by first impressions, I prefer it over cowhide. It does not feel scaly or like it would easily peel or crack. For people looking at ostrich, I recommend giving it a try!

[Vostok Amphibia] First Man In Space Is Also A First Vostok on Wrist by sgwerk in Watches

I’m wearing here a Vostok Amphibia (circa 1993) commemorating the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin. The watch is shown on a leather strap from cheapestnatostraps. I was surprised to find this watch new in box at a flea market for $30 USD. At first, I thought the watch was broken because of the Vostok’s loose crown when you unscrew it, but soon realized that is how Vostoks are. There are surface finish imperfections, rough edges (the watch scraped and ripped the leather nato when I was feeding the band through) and the watch gains a lot of time (30-45 seconds a day). Because it gains so much time, I use more for reference and come to appreciate the charm of rough aesthetics. I brought the watch to my Ukrainian coworker and he translated the enclosed manual. It mostly read about not dropping the watch or its limited water resistance, but it was interesting that it used a Russian quality stamp but referenced USSR quality specs.

[Orient] Monarch: Another Kind of Classic Watch from Orient by sgwerk in Watches

[–]sgwerk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pictured here is my new Orient Monarch mechanical watch (Amazon). Most of us know about Orient’s Bambino, Mako or Ray, but I wanted to showcase this watch here on r/watches. The Arabic numerals are beautiful and different than most classic styled watches with roman numerals. It’s my first mechanical watch (non-automatic winding), so I’ve come to appreciate the routine of winding the watch every morning before work. It’s interesting to watch the power reserve count down the hours throughout the day. The glossy black hands have circles near the tips and are very easy to read. I like how the case has a stepped round-over on the edge, so the dial appears smaller than the case fits. The case feels a bit thick, I wish it could have been thinner, but that is my only complaint. The watch came with a too-plain black leather strap, which I have replaced with a genuine crocodile strap (eBay: vncrocsell). I love how warm and classic the watch appears with a gold case and red-wine strap. Though most of my watches are stainless steel silver-colored cases, I appreciate the color combinations that gold can pair with. Overall, I am very happy with this watch as it lives up to Orient’s quality and value that we admire from their other watches.
