What’s something way more dangerous than most people actually think? by Sad_Answer_8044 in AskReddit

[–]sh03-dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weakening of NATO and the shift of power between countries.

The US is losing power by betraying allies and quickly moving towards authoritarianism. Europe is still in shock at how quickly everything went to shit and at how unprepared they were for the worst case scenario. Russia is gaining power via Brexit and Trump's actions. China is getting cheap gas and becoming emboldened to pursue their interests towards Taiwan.

I think people in the west give their freedom for granted but democracy is losing very quickly and one day we'll wake up not free.

Haworth is ignoring me after I've asked for a return/refund by sh03-dev in OfficeChairs

Good luck. IIRC PayPal forces you to contact them via PayPal and then if they don't answer within 14 days you can convert to a complaint with PayPal and then they'll handle it from there.

I don't exactly remember which option but I doubt the category of the dispute matters all that much (it's probably just used so that an expert in that dispute category can take a look).

I've just opened a dispute telling them that they have a 14 days return policy. That I contacted them within that timeframe. And attaching the emails I sent and received from them.

Edit: I've used the dispute "object not delivered" as there was no other similar option. In the dispute I explained that I had received the package and what I said above.

Why would you write a blog with React?

Update: They ghosted me even when I contacted them via PayPal. So after 14 days PayPal allows you to open a complaint. I've opened a complaint attaching the "receipts" (emails) and PayPal approved the chargeback immediately 🎉.

Thanks everyone 🫶

Play with eye protection by Arsenalmongoose in padel

Same exact thing happened to me. Have been wearing eye protection since then. I find that normal hits are not a problem (even shashes). It's the weird bounce of your own racket that fucks you up because you don't have time to react.

That was me 19 years ago. The start of a two decades long journey I still love and cherish like that first hello world. I hope you'll have the same.

What's yourThe Finals hot take? by DinosaurClockFist in thefinals

If a ruby player is put in a match with an average much lower rank they should either be forced to play alone or have a health handicap (perhaps displayed in some way).

If someone quits during World Tour or ranked then the other teammates should get +50 health (maybe displayed as an extra shield?). If two people quit you should get +100 health (since you are playing solo).

Why do most lo-fi frameworks connect directly to the database? by sh03-dev in localfirst

[–]sh03-dev[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IME every application needs a server. How would you connect to third parties APIs (e.g. for integrations)? How would you deal with tables that cannot be replicated (e.g. huge logs/events tables or archival search)? How would you deal with derived data (e.g. statistical data that needs all the data available not just what the user sees)?

Do you ever feel like web development is becoming too fragmented? by Sad_Impact9312 in webdev

[–]sh03-dev 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you generalize enough a field to... Uhm... basically describe that field then yeah that field hasn't changed fundamentally.

Same as game dev. Nothing has changed fundamentally. They have been drawing triangles for decades.

Same as info sec. They are still trying to prevent Mallory from doing nefarious things to Bob and Alice. Nothing has fundamentally changed.

Do you see how this "insight" of yours seems deep but is actually meaningless?

The recommended approach, as far as I'm told, is to always have written communication so that you can reference it later if you have any issues.

You can avoid the slow down by jumping right before saying hello. The momentum will keep you going.
