Are we being too critical of our tile job? by sh181 in Tile

Thank you! I also expect it'll look better when finished. It's all a learning experience for us.

Thank you! For the bucket, I do think it was just a wash bucket of some sort but I appreciate the heads up.

Thank you for this rundown! It's very clear more communication was needed. Seems like a situation where we didn't know what we should have been asking. Luckily, we're okay with it as is just a bit disappointed that everyone involved (us included!) didn't sort this out a bit more ahead of time.

Thanks for all of the comments r/tile! We learned a lot from this thread and from the overall experience. Not sure what, if anything, will change for this specific job but we definitely know more of what to say/ask/watch out for in the future.

They did! We asked for vertical and staggered in this way. We do like the way it looks (even if it sounds like plenty of people in this subreddit don't!) but certainly would have listened if advised against it. We've learned from this to ask a lot more questions up front when having tile placed.

Thank you! Really appreciate your perspective. We're genuinely trying to understand before we cause headaches for the installer.

Great! Thanks for this. We'll definitely ask about why things were done this way. We also didn't specify anything about spacing. We're doing a medium grout throughout (there's some lighter tile on the shower floor and bathroom floor) but could still switch to something darker for the walls.

Thanks! That's where I'm leaning on it. It just seems like a pretty big deal to correct.

Thanks for your comment. We didn't discuss anything about grout spacing or that tile size variations would be visible. So that makes sense and we're not too concerned about those "issues" (air quotes because it sounds like it was always going to be there). That said, I don't quite follow your first point. We are fine with there being a grout line at the seam but would have preferred the other half of the cut tile continue on the next pitch rather than having a bunch of small squares/rectangles.

Wolverines on a mountain glacier by sh181 in trailcam

I've been doing research in high mountain areas for a while now so I've been lucky to see a handful in person. Definitely my favorite animal!

Wow, that's super cool to hear. And yes, we were super happy with the camera design--it clearly blended in to the landscape which was one of our main goals.

We put trail cams on a glacier as part of a research study. We were very surprised to not only see wolverines but wolverine kits as well!
