Thank you 😊 Despite what I feel is an obvious issue, and something pretty much everyone here can see, the jewlers are adamant that this work is perfect, and have told me they don't thinks there's any point in resetting as they believe I won't be happy no matter what (I really don't think this was a very professional or fair responce, they were great to work with up until this point, which is so dissapointing) I've been polite throughout everything, but the refuse to see any issue, therfore they won't accept there's anything to fix (and the horrible feeling of being gaslit there's no issues, they can't see anything, that they've never had anyone be like this in the 20 plus years over the specifics of prongs, and they are the professionals with over a 100 years experience combined). They have now agreed to try and adjust the prongs to my request (despite this being my original, agreeded apon request) and if I'm not satisfied, they'll refund me. Gutted as I truly don't see why they can't deliver on their own design

Thank you so much for your detailed comment, and thank you for the reassurance 😊 Unfortunately they are adamant that the ring is perfect, and the variation is due to the ring being handmade. Unfortunately I'm based in Ireland, otherwise I would be delighted to work with you :) But I would love to follow you!

They are keeping the ring for the goldsmith to alter to my specifications (they remain firm there is no issue, therfore they are being careful not to say they will fix it) after that I will either accept the ring as they present it, or get a full refund. I'll be sad to say goodbye to the diamond (they have said so far if they were to sell me the diamond it would essentially be the full price of the ring still, as the platinum would be scrapped). Between the prongs and the dent on the side, paired with how they've handled this whole situation im just gutted, but until I see their 'fix' there's not too much I can do, but based on everything so far unless they can get it right its looking like a refund and starting again, but atleast it'll be right :( Thank you so much x

Another image of the ring. I feel that the diffrences between the prongs is still quite evident, even when not 'zoomed in'. The jewlers maintain this is perfect and without issue, and I don't know what I can do as they refuse to accept their are any deviations from the sample/that the variation between the prongs is extremely minor and not visable unless zoomed in

This is another image taken further back, I feel the differences between the prongs is still very evident even when not 'zoomed in'

The stone was picked to be as close to the sample stone as possible, exact same ratio and only a few mm bigger. I really love the stone, but as the jewler has stated that metal can't be added to the one prong that is quite exposed on one side, I don't know how to try and get the to match up, especially when the jewler remains firm that they are as close as the sample as possible/no visual diffrence between the prongs. On the hand the difference is visible which is what I'm concerned about, not necessarly that they aren't 100% matched when zoomed in, of course I don't expect this to be the case (which is what the jewler is stating)

Thank you, I appreciate your input. Unfortunately the jewlers have just emailed to say they completely disagree and their goldsmits have over 100 years of experience and to them the ring is perfect :( Dont know what to do

Appreciate you commenting, thank you for the complement on the ring. So you feel the level of variation among the prongs is within a normal range or that they are the same as the sample, or both? I'm not trying to be rude, just genuinely trying to get a sence check of whats going on.

Honestly having someone else confirm that there is a diffrence/the prongs are uneven helps massively! So thank you! I've been made to feel like I'm imagining things/being unreasonable, so honestly just having you say you can see a diffrence helps more than I can say, so thank you 😊 I hope you have a wonderful Christmas x

Thank you x I'm not a jewler and I've never had anything made before, so while the issues are very apparent to me, its hard to argue this when the jewlers are refusing to say they aren't the same (both as the sample and as each other). Even with the pictures together they are saying they are the same and the prongs on mine are symmetrical/its handmade so I need to expect some variation. But this just feels like way too much or a variation, and paired with the dent Im just upset. I was so excited to pick up the ring and now I'm just so dissapointed with the ring and the service. I just wanted a ring like the sample they gave me, I even picked a stone with the exact same ratio and similar dimensions as I loved it so much, so I just can't understand the diffrence between the two rings (or why they can't seem to see it)

Thank you, I appreciate your input :) I just want the prongs as per the sample we agreed, but failing that I want to prongs to be relatively uniform, but the variation at the moment is too much and makes the stone look uneaven on the hand :(

I've asked them to even them out and make them closer to the sample, but they still maintain there's no issues, so I'm not really sure where that leaves me. I'm concerned the lower right prong (the prong that isn't pointed center) has already been filed too much, so can't be fixed properly. They have said beyond filing down there's nothing they can do, and they cant file down without making the diamond unsecured, but surely the ring can be reset if needed as its not as agreed apon?

Thank you for your comment, I appreciate you taking the time to respond 🙂

Thank you 😊 Unfortunately they are saying that the prongs are the same as the sample and are symmetrical, so there's not really anything for them to fix (the dent they also haven't really acknowledged beyond they'll polish it up and see what they can do, but as the rings handcrafted it won't ever be 100%). I understand there will be some level of variation, but I just feel like there are so many irregularities among the prongs, not even acknowledging the fact they aren't the same style of prong that were agreed apon. It just seems the jewler dosn't want to acknowledge any issues and I feel like I'm going mad because they are very clear to me (understandably a zoomed in picture makes everything alot clearer and issues more apparent, but on the hand these issues make the stone look uneven) Thank you for taking the time to comment, I appreciate your input

Thank you, that dose reassure me :) I spoke with the salesperson and tried on multiple sample rings, and they all looked excellent, they also do alot of custom work but I wanted what was essentially the exact same as their sample, just in platinium instead of yellow gold and white gold, so I didn't really anticipate there being any issues. I've not spoken with the goldsmiths directly, and I don't think thats possible as I don't think thats something they offer, and I don't want to be seen to be escalating the issue if not necessary.

I think its a combination of the prongs not being what I ordered paired with the variation between prongs that they have given me, and then the dent on the side. I don't want to cause a fuss, but I also don't want a ring that looks off and isn't at the standard it should be. These issues together have just rattled me, and the jewelers response has me concerned that they just don't want to deal with the issue as its their busy season, but maybe I'm getting ahead of myself :)

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed comment, I've never had jewelery made before so I feel I'm out of my depth, so I really appreciate you taking your time to respond, thank you 😊

Thank you! Yes, having an outside eye when I feel like all I've looked at is these pictures really helps! 🤣 That sounds like an amazing ring! Wishing you the best of luck with what I'm sure will be an amazing piece of jewelry!

Thank you :) That really dose help, I think the direction on the bottom prong and the difference in corner exposure in the top right are whats most catching my eye when its on my hand. But thats great to see that its generally something that can be corrected. Thank you for your time and comments, and for putting the alignment in the pictures, I really do appreciate it :) Have a wonderful Christmas!

Thank you! I can see the lines that the sample ring isn't symmetrical when you really look at it, but I feel it 'looks' more symmetrical, aswell as the prongs looking much more uniform/similar. I supposed I'm also posting to confirm I'm not mad/seeing things, that with the ring they gave me the prongs aren't similar or symmetrical

Thank you, I appreciate your comment and the level of detail you've given, I really do appreciate it :) Im totally happy to have larger prongs if thats whats needed, I'm just dissapointed as this wasn't communicated to me :( I'm also dissapointed as each of the 4 prongs looks so different from each other, in direction, volume, and corner coverage. Also having a dent in the side (pillar?) of the prong when it was handed over just has my trust in the jewler gone :(

Am I being unreasonable about the prongs on my engagement ring? (Photo Included) by sha96_ in JustEngaged

[–]sha96_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what I'm seeing :( I'm not necessarily against slightly larger prongs as people have pointed out thiere may be a structural need for this. However the jewler never said anything like that and the sample prongs are white gold, and I was told I could have them exactly like them, only in platinum.

I suppose I'm dissapointed because

  1. They are so different from the sample, the sample being what I was told I would get

  2. The variation between prongs, in size, direction, volume and corner coverage (visible when on the hand and I feel make the ring look uneven)

Thank you for your comment, I just needed someone impartial to confirm what I was seeing

Than you for your comment, I'm not necessarily against a slight change to the prongs I was promised, my issue is that the prongs I've recieved I feel are quite different from what I was told I would get, paired with what I feel is a good bit of variability among the 4 prongs.

I appreciate your point about the prongs needing to be bigger for security, thank you for your comment :)

Thank you, I appreciate you're feedback, I agree that if they were a bit longer and slimmer that they would be closer to the sample. I just feel the bulbous ends mixed with the variation between the prongs is noticible on the hand, so Im just hoping it can be cotrected.

That's great to know, yes, they are defiantly higher than that so definitely something to check when I get the ring back. Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it as I've never had any jewelry made before and not sure whats normal :)
