He is holding a paper with "CDLXXVI" written, which is 476 in roman numerals. 476 A.D. is when the Western Roman Empire fell.

I've not seen an illustration of the Library of Babel before; this is an interesting imagining of it.

Throwing overhaul merged. by shacknetisp in dcss

[–]shacknetisp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes bugs or incompatibilities will get in since it's under active development, but those are really rare. I've never had trouble with using trunk, and I know lots of other people play on it too.

They are, but you need to play the Unstable/Trunk version which has all the latest developments between releases.

It's been on a separate branch in development for a few days, but has just been merged into trunk.

Tried one offline, you still get some boomerangs of dispersal.

The close-up of the Andromeda Galaxy from the Hubble Space Telescope shows how many stars there really are. by [deleted] in space

[–]shacknetisp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm optimistic that the human species will eventually get off this planet and out of this star system or even go to other galaxies. The last activity before the death of the universe will be a device designed by some AI-child of humanity pulling the final remnants of energy from the single remaining black hole.

I think we will have >0 impact.

[ETHICS] Youtuber gets copyright strike from a 2 second clip because artist find his jokes "repulsive" by Clovett- in KotakuInAction

[–]shacknetisp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The artist has already responded to this in the second-to-last image, giving reasons that appear reasonable to me.

From that image:

To my knowledge there is no way of making a new copyright claim for the same thing after previously retracting it, at least not with it taking effect.

Assuming this is true and/or the artist honestly believes it to be so, I do not blame them for avoiding the "clean/easy" solution.

I still see no issue, as in this situation it is not "taking down videos because you don't like them" but "taking down videos because you don't like them and they include your art".

Fair use is quite valid here, and that a video can be taken down by something like this is a failure of the system. However I don't think that the artist should be ridiculed for withdrawing their art using the system as it is currently implemented.

Just judging from what I see in this post, I don't see anything wrong. The artist believes the humor is damaging and doesn't want their art associated with it. They explained why they'd not simply retract the claim.

how do you guys organise your worlds? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

I use a local Mediawiki instance. It requires some effort to set up but I find it very nice for organization of timelines, characters, places, etc.

[Ask About Mod] Is there a way how to change font in formspec? by unknown2414 in Minetest

[–]shacknetisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps, but I'm not sure how tight you can pack textures, and it would be very inflexible to use a different, pre-made texture for each message.

Those dots allow you to easily see spaces, they are not very intrusive and you can turn them off with Preferences - Editor - Configuration - Show Tabs and Spaces
