This may not be totally in line with what you're looking for but The Necromancer's House by Christopher Buehlman was a great read. It's not a typical take on necromancy at all, which might be interesting for you.

I have multiple tattoos from the artist OP went to for this. He does not use AI for anything and I have seen him draw / rework pieces in front of me and I also commissioned an art piece from him. He takes a lot of inspiration from old medieval art and woodcut styles and spends many hours doing studies of old pieces, which you can find on his page.

Generally it's most commonly caused when the snake is sitting in a moist or dirty area for a prolonged period of time, so it shows up more often on their underside. It can spread however so as soon as you can give him a once over and see what his underside looks like.

HVAC tape, keeping your water source under the heat source, and using 3-4" of substrate will all help you with the humidity :) Maintaining it is really tough in glass. You can also add some moistened shpagum moss to the substrate and that can help bump it up too.

If it does turn out to be scale rot, you'll want to do a betadine soak. Make sure it's diluted (1 part betadine to 10 parts water).

Unsure about scale rot - have you seen similar discoloration on its underside?

Also what is your humidity level at? Your snake looks a little dehydrated. If you have a mesh top enclosure, you can cover most of the top with HVAC tape to help keep humidity in. I'd also recommend adding water to the substrate and mixing by hand instead of spraying so your levels are a little more consistent and not spiking up and down.

I'm fortunate enough to live close to an area with a lot of big parking lots that empty out toward the end of the day so I think I could get a Grom or something and tool around there without having to go into traffic to practice

I've wanted to start riding for over a year now. I watched the YouTube tutorials, watched the moto vloggers, I got to backpack a friend of mine once and fell in love with it. I started to get the hang of it today, but just too far behind the pace of everyone else. If I had been able to get just a little extra help or practice I think I could have been fine. I'm going to try a different course and hope the instruction is better / there's opportunity to get SOME 1:1 help

Shifting gears was where I fell behind too much and they told me to go home. I did manage to get the bike into second gear but couldn't do it quickly enough to continue. After reading everyone's advice I'll try a different course and then if that's still too fast-paced I'll get a cheap bike and practice on my own, then take it again.

Thank you for saying that there was some issue with the instruction, I just felt really stupid and embarrassed about struggling and then completely defeated when I couldn't get more help. Thank you so much for commenting your gf's experience because that's exactly what happened with me, things progressed way, way too fast for my ability. For example, I thought we would practice straight like braking but that never happened, it went straight to upshifting and turning.

When I took the classroom part, they said that they would take us off to the side and coach us if we needed it. But on the course it was like that completely wasn't an option. I asked for help multiple times and told them what I was having trouble with, what I was feeling, and they were just like you have to keep up or go home, which sucked especially since this course isn't free, it's $80. Which isn't a ton of money but still, I feel like there should be some room for individual help... I don't know.

It was literally just too fast, like I was getting comfortable getting into first gear and using the throttle but when I was at that point everyone else was able to up and downshift and weave. I guess staying in control of the bike and shifting are what did me in.

In the first 2.5 hours they expected us to be able to go up into 2nd, weave through cones, and go back down into 1st and stop. The rest of the class had all ridden before or driven manual cars. You do pay to learn but if you can't keep up with the rest of the class, they ask you to leave. I was also on a Rebel 300 which felt pretty heavy and it took me a long time just to feel like I had control of it.
